Managing Your Volunteer Team
How do I register team members?
Click here for instructions on how to manually add team members or invite them to sign up for your project.
Will group members have to create volunteer accounts to join my project?
All group members need to be registered online. If you enter your groups members manually, a profile will be started for them and they will receive an email notifying them. If you use the "join link" and invite your group members to sign up, they will have to create a profile or login to their profile in order to register. All that is required to create a profile is name and email.
What happens if I can't find enough people to fill all the volunteer slots I claimed?
It is important that you recruit all the volunteers required for your project. The best way to ensure this is by starting your recruitment as early as possible so that you have enough time to fill the project. If you would like to reduce the number of slots claimed for your group, click the "surrender a reserved slot" button on your manage groups page. You can also contact us at volunteers@uwkc.org for assistance with modifying your group's registration.
What if more people join my group than volunteer slots?
If you want to add volunteer slots, first check with the organization host to confirm that they can accommodate extra volunteers. If they can add more spots, they will need to contact us at volunteers@uwkc.org so that we can add volunteer slots to the project. It is important to not show up on the day of the project with more volunteers than the organization is expecting. Sometimes organization don't have the capacity (supplies, space, staff, etc.) to handle additional volunteers.
My project has been cancelled by the organization. What do I do?
It is extremely rare for projects to get cancelled, but if your project is cancelled, contact us at volunteers@uwkc.org and we can help you find a new project.
General Questions
Who can volunteer for MLK Day of Service?
All are welcome, but check the age requirements if you plan to bring your kids.
Are children welcome at MLK Day projects?
It is up to the organization hosting the MLK Day project whether or not they accept volunteers under 18. Check with the organization contact for their policy on youth volunteers before the event.
Can I volunteer as an individual or do I have to join a team?
You can volunteer as an individual or a team. If you are volunteering as an individual you won't have a Project Leader so just make sure you have all the information you need from the organization hosting the project. If you are volunteering as a part of a team, please note that you may be volunteering alongside other groups or individuals. If you want to ensure that you are volunteering for a private project with just your group, please reach out to volunteers@uwkc.org.
