Who We Are

Seattle Wind Symphony (SWS) was founded in 2011 to promote professional-level wind band music to the general public. SWS is dedicated to the presentation of professional quality symphonic wind music to the general public, educators and students. Our program philosophy is to perform time tested, professional and compelling literature that is engaging for both audience and musicians alike. As an audition ensemble we are intentional about providing an opportunity for the finest wind, brass and percussion instrumentalists to perform. Seattle Wind Symphony endeavors to be an instrument of hope for young musicians by modeling high music and performance standards. We are an all-volunteer community wind band made up of musicians in the greater Seattle area spanning many professional careers (veterinarians, sales and marketing managers, retail professionals, public educators, computer engineers, accountants, and more).

What We Do

We perform 4-5 wind band concerts per season throughout the greater Seattle community, including a FREE Independence Day-themed concert at Benaroya Hall in July. We feature local professional musicians as guest soloists throughout the season (including trumpeter Sarah Viens, pianist Duane Hulbert, euphonium Jason Gilliam, soprano Ibidunni Ojikutu, and soprano Marlette Buchanan). Past programming has included world premieres of works by PNW composers as well as student concerto competitions. We partner with TeenTix.org to offer low cost tickets to youth.
