Who We Are

The Oromo Cultural Center (OCC) is a nonprofit organization registered under the IRS as a 501(c)(3) with the EIN 010566082. OCC owns a property in South Seattle and provides services seven days a week. It offers a wide range of services tailored to meet the cultural, social, educational, and community needs of low-income immigrants and refugees from all backgrounds.

What We Do

OCC owns a property in South Seattle and provides services seven days a week. It offers a wide range of services tailored to meet the cultural, social, educational, and community needs of people from all backgrounds. Below is an overview of the current services offered: Cultural Education and Community Engagement Programs that promote the preservation and celebration of Oromo culture and heritage. Community engagement activities aimed at fostering unity and support within the Oromo community. Group counseling and healing programs to assist community members facing difficulties such as bereavement or health crises. Ritual body wash space for burial preparations when a community member passes away. Assistance with marriage ceremonies, including counseling for marriage and divorce. Health Services Health services are offered daily (Monday through Friday) from 10 AM to 6 PM. Programs designed to provide health education and support for community members. OCC Academy OCC Academy operates daily (Monday through Friday) from 8:30 AM to 4 PM. Educational programs aimed at fostering academic excellence among community members. Tutoring Services Tutoring sessions are held four days a week (Monday through Thursday) from 5 PM to 7 PM. Academic support for students to improve their performance and confidence in various subjects. Employment Assistance Services include job search support, resume building, and job interview techniques. Mock interviews to prepare community members for job opportunities. Workshops and one-on-one guidance to assist individuals in securing employment. Social Services Assistance with bill payments and housing applications. Help with applications for support programs such as DSHS and other organizations. Technology and Education Programs Free computer training for adults, including basic skills and advanced applications. ESL (English as a Second Language) classes to improve language proficiency. Training in computer coding, programming, and various computer languages is free. Islamic Studies Classes are conducted on Saturday and Sunday from 10 AM to 2 PM. Religious and cultural education for community members. Group Counseling and Support Counseling and healing sessions for community members facing personal or family crises.
