The Immigrant Youth and Seniors United (ISYU) is a Strong Youth/Seniors program that combines
cultural, academic and recreational activities to support youths ages 5-13 using a Socially-based
approach led by Immigrants staff and parents. The weekly program includes three after school sessions
focused on homework help and tutoring as well as a Week end session focused on cultural activities
(learning about Somali culture, languages, and songs and dances) and physical exercise (through
learning and playing soccer). The after school sessions will offer 3 hours of programming thrice weekly
and the weekend session will include 5 hours of programming (from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm we will offer light
breakfast, cultural programming and lunch after which we will focus on soccer from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm).
Through this program, Youth come together from a variety of schools and neighborhoods throughout King
County to:
1) Experience a sense of belonging to the larger Immigrants community.
2) Build connections to each other in common purpose.
3) Build a Social foundation for greater success in school and in life. Family support services are also
