Who We Are

Seattle Parks and Recreation's Elementary and Middle-School Community Learning Centers (CLCs) provide students with academic, enrichment, and recreation opportunities during out of school time in order to support student academic achievement and reduce the academic achievement gap. CLCs are supported by the Families and Education Levy. Elementary and Middle School Community Learning Centers have been in existence since 2005 and serve over 1500 students daily. A variety of after school opportunities are offered including tutoring and homework assistance, dance, art, music, drama, sports, fitness, life skills, cooking, and robotics to name a few. We have over 3700 middle school students and our desire is that they all have the chance to participate is safe, welcoming, and enriching activities that are led by caring adults. Volunteers are an important ingredient in this effort. With volunteer support we are able to provide a broader range of activities while creating the opportunity for citizens to share their gifts and talents with students.

What We Do

We could not do what we do at Seattle Parks and Recreation without the active support of our community partners and volunteers. Whether it?s spending a Saturday morning pulling invasive species like English Ivy or Himalayan Blackberry from our precious urban forests or dedicating hours after work to help at-risk teens achieve goals that improve self esteem and create opportunities for the future, our volunteers are a vital part of our success. One way Community Learning Centers achieve our goals is by providing more high quality out-of-school time programming in order to engage more students in fulfilling and worthwhile activities. The Seattle Parks and Recreation CLCs are currently looking for volunteers to provide these opportunities by leading a class, as well as volunteers to tutor or support existing courses. Volunteers will be provided with training and orientation.
