Food Lifeline

Food Lifeline rescues food and provides meals to end hunger today for thousands of people across Western Washington. We’re also working hard regionally to provide a long-term solution to hunger that ensures that everybody has enough food to eat. 

Founded in 1979, Food Lifeline is led by a board of directors that represents our community and the food industry. Food Lifeline employs a staff of more than 100 dedicated team members, from truck drivers to food industry specialists, who all bring a passion to stopping hunger to their work.

Food Lifeline is a proud member of the Feeding America network. This relationship allows us to bring hunger-stopping best practices, relationships with national food brands and food surpluses from sister agencies back to Western Washington.

We rescue millions of pounds of this surplus food from farmers, manufacturers, grocery stores, and restaurants. 

Volunteers sort and repack this food in our 130,000-square-foot Hunger Solution Center, where we distribute it to more than 300 food banks, shelters, and meal programs throughout Western Washington, providing the equivalent of 97,000 meals every day to people in need. 

At the same time, we are working to activate allies and advocates to help shape policy, while partnering with organizations that are addressing the needs of low-income families.
