Who We Are

BIAWA Vision Statement Our vision is a world where brain injury is prevented, and every person already affected by its impact benefits from resources that maximize his/her quality of life. BIAWA Mission Statement Our mission is to increase public awareness, support, and hope for those affected by brain injury through education, assistance, and advocacy. The Brain Injury Alliance of Washington was formed in 1982 by families and caregivers of individuals with brain injuries who saw a need for support in the community. The organization was mostly volunteer based for many years and included support groups and a Resource Line. Services began to grow in 2007 when the Resource Line received a contract to provide services. In 2011 the state's first Pediatric Resource Manager was hired to provide direct services to youth who had experienced a brain injury. Later that same year, BIAWA was awarded a statewide contract to provide in-person Resource Management to adults with a traumatic brain injury, and in 2012 Pediatric Services became available statewide as well.
