Who We Are

Vision: All people on the East, Northeast, and Southeast of King County and survivors of domestic violence countywide will have access to justice in the civil legal system.

Mission: Eastside Legal Assistance Program (ELAP) is a non-profit organization dedicated to making the legal system more accessible to those most in need by providing free or low-cost yet high quality civil legal services to low-income residents of East, Northeast, and Southeast King County, Washington and domestic violence legal aid throughout King County.

Incorporated as a non-profit in 1989, ELAP has continuously expanded our services to low income residents needing civil legal assistance. Over 3,000 people contact ELAP each year for assistance. ELAP's volunteer attorneys provide over $1.2 million worth of donated services each year. The agency is funded by King County, the Legal Foundation of Washington, special events, and through private donations.

What We Do

ELAP provides free civil legal services through a variety of projects, including 30 monthly advice/consultation clinics (free 45 and 60 minute attorney consultations), the Wills Project (simple wills, physician's directive/advance medical directives, durable power of attorney), Domestic Violence Legal Project (DVLP) (provides free emergency assistance to abuse victims anywhere in King County), community educational lectures and workshops, and Client-Plus Services. ELAP services are provided at a variety of Eastside and Southeast locations and rely heavily on volunteer attorneys and community volunteers to provide services and oversee delivery. Volunteers are the backbone of the organization and the services we provide would not be possible without this dedicated team of volunteers.
