Who We Are

Our Beginnings

Donna Pierce started WestSide Baby in 2001 because, she says, “I was one stressed-out, freaked-out new mom, even though I didn’t have to worry about having enough money to feed, clothe, and diaper my babies. I couldn’t stand imagining the level of stress felt by new moms with low incomes, no incomes, no healthcare, no home. WestSide Baby had to be born.”

Our Mission

WestSide Baby, in partnership with our community, provides essential items to local children in need by collecting and distributing diapers, clothing, and equipment.

Our Vision

WestSide Baby envisions a day when each child is equipped with the basic items they need to grow into healthy, happy, and resilient members of our community.

What We Do

WestSide Baby meets the basic needs of children to promote safety, security & healthy development. We provide essential items to keep children safe, warm and dry by collecting and distributing diapers, clothing, and equipment throughout Western King County. We receive donations from the community, check and sort those donations, and distribute them directly to 100+ partner agencies, who are experts in areas of early learning, parental support and healthcare and who work authentically, and directly with families and children.

We are volunteer-driven.

In 2019, we had nearly 2,500 volunteers, both individuals and groups, who gave a total of over 23,000 hours. Our volunteers help us in so many ways:

  • Organize diaper and item drives
  • Sort donations
  • Fill orders requested by agencies for families
  • Inspect cribs, car seats, and other equipment
  • Support our events
  • ...and so much more!

We distribute items to families through our 114 partner agencies who represent incredible and diverse services throughout western King County. Agencies order items from us and deliver them to families who are homeless, living in transitional housing, or simply in need of a little help during a difficult time.

Some examples of partners we work with are: Public Health – Seattle & King County, Seattle Children’s Hospital, El Centro de La Raza, Rainier Valley Food Bank, West Seattle Food Bank, Low Income Housing Institute, Neighborhood House, and Southwest Youth and Family Services, and many more.

In 2019, we served over 20,000 children ages 0-12 and distributed $3.4 million worth of items including:

  • 2,965 car seats
  • 1.54 million diapers
  • 749 safe sleep options, including cribs, pack n plays, and bassinets
