Who We Are
The mission of the Magnuson Children's Garden Committee is to nurture the love of gardening and nature for children and families.
In 2001, the ideas generated by children and parents from nearby neighborhoods were put together by a volunteer team of professional horticulturists and landscape designers to create Magnuson Children's Garden. The main features of the garden were built from 2002-2005 with the help of many community volunteers and sponsors, and with funding from Seattle Children's Hospital and the City of Seattle Dept. of Neighborhoods. Since 2005, hundreds of volunteer groups have helped add more special features and maintain this vibrant and whimsical garden, with ongoing input from children who participate in our public education and special events!
The garden is open free to the public year-round for self-guided adventures, and all of the family-friendly programs hosted by the Children's Garden Committee (which hopefully will resume soon) are provided free of charge!
What We Do
From April to October each year, the all-volunteer Magnuson Children's Garden Committee hosts volunteer garden stewardship events on the 2nd Saturday of the month from 9:00am-12:00noon, AND free, family-friendly garden classes from 10:00am-11:00am.
Magnuson Children's Garden is part of the Magnuson Community Garden, a 4-acre, multi-use garden within Warren G. Magnuson Park. This community garden also includes a large P-Patch, a Native Plant Border, Tranquil Garden, Native Plant Nursery, and Demonstration Orchard.
