Who We Are

Tilth Alliance's mission is to inspire and educate people to safeguard our natural resources while building an equitable and sustainable local food system. Tilth was founded in 1978 in order to promote organic agriculture in an urban environment.

Tilth Alliance continues to actively teach organic gardening and kitchen classes, children's summer camps, and environmental stewardship programs for adults and adolescents. Volunteers engage in hands-on learning at our demonstration gardens at the Good Shepherd Center in Wallingford, Bradner Gardens Park in the Mount Baker neighbhorhood, and McAuliffe Park in Kirkland, as well as Seattle's largest urban farm -- Rainier Beach Urban Farm and Wetlands. We

Our programs and classes center around environmental stewardship, regenerative agriculture, organic home gardening, and techniques for growing and preparing food.

What We Do

Tilth Alliance is an education-focused non-profit organization dedicated to teaching and promoting organic gardening and farming. Our activities include: composting education, pesticide reduction programs, children's gardening programs, hands-on gardening and kitchen classes, organic demonstration gardens, peer-to-peer learning for local farmers, green jobs training, and forest and wetland restoration. Tilth Alliance also coordinates large annual events: The Edible Plant Sale in May, the Chicken Coop & Urban Farm Tour in July, and Farm Fest in August.

No prior experience is necessary for volunteers. We provide all necessary tools and training. Getting involved with Tilth Alliance is a great way to meet new people, learn new skills, and engage with the community and the environment.
