Who We Are
Highline Seatac Botanical Garden: Connecting the community to nature through a diverse and beautiful collection of historical gardens.
The foundation manages and develops a community-owned garden that demonstrates today’s best horticulture and environmental practices and preserves two historically important regional gardens. The garden houses a unique plant collection that inspires and educates visitors and creates opportunities for outdoor exercise and for public enjoyment.
The Highline Botanical Garden Foundation was created by volunteers, to preserve two important gardens impacted by SeaTac Airport’s proposed third runway. Through a partnership between volunteers, the City of SeaTac, and the Port of Seattle, the Foundation moved thousands of plants from personal collections to the North SeaTac Park.
More than five-and-one-half acres of the eleven-acre site are now planted, leaving plenty of room to share other stories in garden form.
What We Do
Through the work of Highline Botanical Garden, two formerly private gardens and a collection of species displays are available for public visits daily, 365 days per year, free of charge to the community, as a regional attraction, and for the tourism industry. Signage educates visitors about the experiences of Japanese Americans during WWII through the story of the Seike family garden, and of the experiences of innovative women in horticulture through the Elda Behm Paradise Garden and the Rosie the Riveter garden.
The garden hosts photography free of charge, and is used as a stage for Quinceanera, Graduation, Wedding and birthday photography by families and small businesses in Seatac and neighboring cities.
