Show your spirit for Summer Meals and Pride!
What am I marching for?
For many low-income families, the summer months are particularly stressful and thousands of kids aren't getting the food and nutrition they need. In King County, 100,000 low-income children and teenagers rely on free or discounted meals during the school year, but less than 20% access free meals during the summer. That's why United Way of King County is committed to serving more meals than ever before and we need all hands on deck!
What’s the event?
Sunday, June 25th marks the 43rd annual Seattle Pride Parade taking place at 11:00 AM along 4th Avenue in downtown Seattle, and United Way of King County plans to show up in full force! LGBTQ youth in King County are more likely to experience homelessness and food insecurity which means it is critical for us to both show our support, and let as many kids know that lunch is on us this summer.
I’m in! What’s next?
Meet us at our downtown Seattle office, 720 2nd Avenue, on June 25th at 10:30 AM . Once you arrive we will gear up with T-shirts, pins, and all sorts of Summer Meals Food Invasion swag. Together we’ll head to the starting location of the parade route where we will need your help (and spirit!) to hold banners, hand out flyers and other fun goodies to the crowd!
Remember to dress for the weather, and be aware that parking will not be available downtown along the parade route so plan your transportation accordingly. The parade is scheduled to last about 2.5 hours, and will end at 2nd Avenue and Denny Way near Seattle Center.
