Grassroot Projects is seeking a volunteer Treasurer to join our Board of Directors. This role oversees the organization’s financial health, ensures accurate reporting, and provides strategic guidance to support our mission of serving children of low-income immigrant and refugee families in the Greater Seattle and Indianapolis areas.

Key Responsibilities

Review financial statements and provide clear reports to the Board.

Lead annual budget preparation and support grant/project budgeting.

Oversee monthly reconciliations and collaborate with our bookkeeper.Ensure timely filing of tax documents (Form 990).

Chair the Finance Committee and provide financial oversight.

Desired Skills

Experience with QuickBooks or similar accounting software.

Strong understanding of nonprofit finance, budgeting, and reporting.

Previous board or leadership experience preferred.

CPA or nonprofit finance experience a plus.

Commitment Approx. 20 hours/month.

2-year term, quarterly board meetings (virtual).

Minimum personal contribution of $1000 annually.

Grassroot Projects is seeking an experienced and committed Volunteer Board Member at Large to join our working board. We are a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting immigrant and refugee families with children in the Greater Seattle and Indianapolis areas, ensuring they have access to basic needs and opportunities to thrive.

What You’ll Do

As a Board Member at Large, you will:

Provide strategic leadership and governance for the organization

Actively engage in fundraising, donor relations, and community partnerships

Support hands-on projects and events — we are a working board, and members play an active role in carrying out initiatives

Serve as an ambassador for Grassroot Projects in the community

Who We’re Looking For

We’re seeking individuals who:

Preferably have prior nonprofit board or leadership experience

Bring skills in one or more of the following: nonprofit fundraising, tech, legal, HR, finance or marketing

Are collaborative, community-driven, and action-oriented

Are willing to dedicate approximately 15 hours/month to board service

Can commit to a 2-year term and contribute a minimum personal donation of $1000 annually

Participate in quarterly (virtual) board meetings

The "Wishes for Dishes" Lead Volunteer would oversee our dish rescue program which redirects dishes headed for the landfill into the hands of local refugee families at zero cost to them. Duties include: Recruit volunteers, or go yourself, to select dishes from what Goodwill is about to throw away - Tuesday mornings 8AM - as dictated by demand. Bring back to our storage unit in Issaquah, unload, sort. Pack dish kits as needed for families who have requested them. Schedule "shopping" trips when inventory dips.

Every Thursday morning we need volunteers to transport our orders from KidVantage in Issaquah to our storage unit (also in Issaquah) where the items are sorted in prepartion for delivery to the families' homes.   A larger vehicle is a plus but we can fit a lot even into a sedan! 

Deliver essential needs to children in need - diapers, car seats, clothing, etc.   Pick up your route's orders in Issaquah and deliver to low-income refugee and immigrant families in either south King County, Seattle or the north end.   Orders are ready Thursday mid-day and can be delivered anytime between then and Sunday night, even Monday if needed.  Sign up for the weekends of your choice.
