Volunteers can provide assistance with light housecleaning, transportation, grocery shopping, home repair and yard care. With a little help from volunteers, clients can continue to live independently in their homes.

A little bit about Volunteer Services:
Volunteer Services is a program of Catholic Community Services. VS provides volunteers who help with the living independence of low-income elders and people living with disabilities. Volunteers are matched to someone based on their interest and volunteering is done on YOUR schedule, in YOUR neighborhood! Just help once to four times a month doing housework, shopping, transportation, yard work, minor home repair, and companionship and make a huge difference in someone’s life.

For 31 years, Catholic Community Services Issaquah Meals Program (IMP) has been serving hot, nutritious dinners to anyone in need, no questions-asked, Mondays-Fridays. Since COVID-19 entered our communities, IMP remains open and will continue to provide hot meals and a warm, dry space for those who have nowhere to go. However, we anticipate more individuals and families utilizing our services during this challenging time.

 

To help us accommodate for the anticipated growing need, we are asking financial contributions and also for supplies such as paper plates, paper cups, napkins, hand sanitizers, and disinfecting wipes for our dedicated volunteers that serve meals each night for proper and safe clean up. If you are interested in serving meals during this time or to coordinate supplies drop off, please contact Griffin Cole at 425-679-0342. We understand it is not possible for everyone to serve meals due to health concerns, we always appreciate meal donations. Please note that meals must be prepared in a commercial kitchen under supervision of someone with a food handlers permit. Additionally, there is an application process for those who would like to serve meals.

However, in the midst of COVID-19, we have redirected our volunteers to ensure program participants get their groceries and medications, essential medical transportation, and phone check-ins.

We are asking for supplies such as gloves, hand sanitizers, and disinfecting wipes for our dedicated volunteer drivers and grocery deliverers to help us safely provide services to our program participants at this time. We can arrange a “no-contact” drop off location or do a curb-side pick-up from your car.

A very friendly and outgoing veteran is needing your help with light housework. She has been dealing with health issues that are preventing her from reaching high and low places safely. Could you spend 2-3 hours a month helping her dust, clean her floors and spend time chatting with her?

We are looking for people who have served in the military or familiar with working with veterans who are interested in helping our clients who served in the military with transportation. Many of our clients need assistance getting to and from the VA. Additionally, some needs help with accessing food and other services. You can pick days, times and distances that works for you! Many clients we work with have difficulty preparing meals due to physical limitations that make tasks simple as chopping or standing up for long periods of time challenging. Do you have a knack for meal preparation or cooking? Do you want to learn how to cook from clients?

There are elderly in the community lacking the stable foundation and support system needed for sustainment. Our program is unique in that all services provided are free, with no membership fees or obligations.

By joining our core of Volunteer Drivers, you can pick rides that work with your schedule. VS offers mileage reimbursement, volunteer’s insurance (available for accidents and liability incidents), social gatherings with peers, and great support from program staff.

A pleasant client in her early 70s is looking for someone to take her grocery shopping every two weeks. She lives at the heart of Ballard and it's a great way for you to visit Ballard if you don't always get to visit much. Her family all live in Eastern Washington and are unable to come every week to get her groceries. Do you have a couple of hours every other week to assist?

Our awesome team is looking for office volunteers who can come 1-2 hours a week, but would be opened to having more help if your schedule allows! Our office is notorious for snacks and coffee, so if you have a sweet tooth--we welcome you with open arms.
