Ready to use your excellent communication skills and unparalleled attention to detail at Pacific Science Center? As an Office Volunteer, you will work directly with the Sales Department and Science on Wheels Program to reach out to schools who have scheduled outreach programming for their students. Essential duties include reminding schools that their paperwork is due (via email), checking confirmed schedules for accuracy, and reaching out to schools to address scheduling errors. This is a great opportunity for anyone with interest in furthering their communication skills via phone and email. This is a temporary role that runs through the school year and ends in June 2019. Volunteers need to be available either Mondays or Tuesdays in order to be considered for this position.

Science Interpretation Program Volunteer (18+)

Help ignite curiosity and welcome visitors into the amazing world of exploration at Pacific Science Center as a Science Interpretation Program (SIP) Volunteer! On any given day you can build a rocket and explore the stars, take a trip to the tropics, or travel back in time to walk with the dinosaurs. Essential duties include engaging with guests and creating positive experiences during their time visiting the Science Center, and providing skilled and accurate interpretation of the Science Center’s many exhibits and activities.

Additionally, SIP Volunteers will have the opportunity to help guests navigate the innovative suite of experiences that the new What is Reality? experience is bringing to the Science Center by facilitating guests’ exploration of the cutting-edge digital and analog interactive experiences. Volunteer shifts are available Monday – Saturday mornings and afternoons. Additionally, we ask for at least a 6 month commitment to volunteering with Pacific Science Center.

What is Reality (opening late 2017) will offer our guests an opportunity to explore leading-edge immersive experiences that technological innovators will showcase throughout the Science Center. From gaming and cinema to medicine, architecture, and education, these technologies are undergoing constant innovation that is happening right in our backyard. What is Reality Volunteers will spur discovery of the different approaches local scientists, engineers, and artists take to create the future and delve into existential and practical questions through active interpretation, education, and facilitation of virtual reality gaming stations. If you are open to new experiences, adaptable, available once a week, and interested in helping our guests explore our understanding of reality please mention your interest in What is Reality in your online volunteer application. Current Science Center volunteers are welcome to extend their Field Trip Ambassador, Guest Ambassador, and Science Interpretation Program volunteer role to include What is Reality; please discuss your interest in this extension role with your direct supervisor.

Pacific Science Center is home to several living exhibits that feature plants, including our most popular attraction, The Tropical Butterfly House. While these exhibits may appear effortlessly natural, they are supported by an enthusiastic team of Horticulture Exhibit Volunteers. Volunteers care for plants, keep exhibits looking beautiful, record citizen science data, and share exhibit science content with museum guests. Volunteer shifts are from 8:30 am-12:00 pm, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays. Horticulture experience is not required - training is provided.
