Alternate Driver: A volunteer is needed to deliver meals in Burien on Wednesday mornings, as needed. Drivers pick up meals between 10:30 am - 11 am and are typically done with their route in 1-1.5 hours. This volunteer is someone who is ready to step in when needed, ensuring consistency and support to help keep our services running smoothly.

Qualifications: Commitment to the well-being of elders, good communication and people skills, reliability, and good cheer. This is an on-going volunteer commitment and we are looking for someone available long-term.

Requirements: Complete an application, consent to a background check, be able to lift 15lbs, be at least 18 years of age, and have a Washington state driver's license and auto insurance.

Meals on Wheels in Burien is in need of a volunteer to work independently for about 1-2 hours on either Mondays or Fridays, the timing is flexible. A typical day includes, checking phone messages, printing paperwork, and general prep for the week to keep Meals on Wheels humming along on schedule. This is a weekly position and we are looking for someone interested in volunteering longer term.

Because of the training involved, we are seeking volunteers who are interested in committing to an ongoing role with us. Training is provided, and mileage reimbursement is available for those making deliveries.

Due to the training and our mission to build relationships, we do look for volunteers who are wanting to volunteer with us for an ongoing duration as consistency is so meaningful to the seniors we serve.

Volunteer Site Coordinator - Thursday mornings, 8:00 AM-12:00 PM.  Lead and support our dedicated volunteers to ensure meals-and hope-reach those who need them. From organizing deliveries to stepping in to call, pack, or deliver when needed, coordinators lead the heart of our daily operations. Training for this position is provided. We are looking for volunteers who are interested in volunteering in an ongoing basis.

Requirements: Complete the Meals on Wheels Volunteer Application, consent to a Washington State Patrol background check, the ability to lift 15 pounds, and be age 21 or more.

Volunteer Coordinator:As the Volunteer Coordinator, the main responsibilities are to make sure that homebound elders receive the meals they order, that the necessary volunteers are on hand to pack and deliver the meals, that volunteers are trained and supported, and various office tasks that keep Meals on Wheels humming along on schedule.

In a pinch, the Coordinator can fill in for any member of the Meals on Wheels team, including delivering meals to clients. Training for this position is provided. The time commitment is 5-8 hours weekly. Availability on Thursdays from 8:30am-noon is needed, in addition availability for a few hours on an occasional Tuesday is desired.

Qualities sought in Meals on Wheels volunteers: Commitment to the well-being of elders, good communication skills, reliability, flexibility, attention to detail, resourcefulness, and good cheer.

Requirements: Complete an application. Consent to a background check. Be able to lift 15lbs. Be at least 24 years of age or better. Have a Washington State driver’s license and auto insurance. This is an ongoing, weekly commitment.

Volunteer Transportation is a program of Sound Generations, a non-profit organization working to help seniors remain safely independent and connected to their communities. One of the biggest barriers seniors face in accessing medical care is lack of transportation. Poor vision or medical conditions prevent them from driving, limited mobility makes it impossible to take the bus, taxis come with prohibitive costs, and loved ones have full-time jobs that render them unavailable to help. Yet, since 1975, Sound Generations Volunteer Transportation has served as a trustworthy resource for older adults throughout King County. With its force of kind and reliable volunteers, the program provides the missing link between seniors and their necessary medical care.

But the value of Volunteer Transportation extends far beyond the rides themselves. A volunteer driver serves as a friendly escort-- a companion-- someone to talk to along the way. Volunteers turn previously stressful ordeals into pleasant, meaningful experiences.

More volunteer drivers are needed throughout King County! The program is currently unable to serve all seniors in need of transportation.

You can help more seniors get “on the road” to improved health and peace of mind! If you have a reliable vehicle, a clean driving record, and some weekday availability, this is the role for you!
