Volunteer: Restore and Preserve historic train cars and locomotives

Are you interested in railroad or Washington State history? Do you enjoy woodworking, painting, welding, and/or building of any kind? Would you like to get involved in your community?

If so, the Northwest Railway Museum has volunteer opportunities for you in Collection Care: conservation, restoration and rehabilitation of Museum artifacts.

In August of 2006, the Museum opened the Conservation and Restoration Workshop(CRW). The facility has 8,400 square feet of work space and two railroad tracks side by side, fully enclosed within the building, as well as restrooms, humidity and temperature control and a visitor's gallery.

The CRW is being used to restore many of the Museum's large artifacts. Volunteers trained in the processes of caring for transportation artifacts, and volunteers learning these skills, staff the facility.

Requirements:
Must be 16 years of age or older;
No experience required to participate - however, volunteers must demonstrate an exemplary adherence to safety procedures and be able to follow staff instruction;
Being able to work independently and as part of a team

Schedule:
Varies based on staff ability and project needs. Weekdays, Mondays through Fridays.
