Opportunities From: United Way of King County

Volunteer: 2026 MLK: Community Meal Volunteers

Community Meal volunteers create a positive experience for all our guests as they reflect on all the day's activities over a wonderful boxed meal.

The location of the end of march rally (and community meal site) is still to be determined  - your volunteer lead will communicate in early January with information on where you will gather and other details. The start/end time may vary based on location.

Volunteers will:

Help food vendor personnel in areas of need (line servers, putting up signage, directing the line, helping set up for meals and helping to clean up after meals)  Serve  guests in a pleasant, efficient, and courteous manner Assist in some preparation of food set-up (ex. organize tent for service, hand out water, etc.) Set up and breakdown of tents and table for food service  Let staff know about items that need to be replenished and restocked. Help anyone with special needs (such as guide people with visual impairments or disabilities)

A few guidelines for volunteers:

Volunteers working in the tents will be required to wear closed‐toe & low heel shoes – you will be on your feet a long time! When working around food, hair needs to be tied back or covered w/ a hat. Gloves will be used for service. There may be lifting so let us know if you are unable to lift 25 lbs and we’ll assign you to a non-lifting role. Have a food handler's permit? That's helpful but not mandatory!

You may be split into sub-teams to focus on specific tasks. The end time is an estimate and with lots of people to help we may finish earlier!

Before your shift - come to Garfield for workshops or the job fair.  Info on activities is updated regularly at  www.seattlemlkcoalition.org  #MLKSeattle

To ensure the safety of everyone at our events, we still encourage healthy practices such as staying home when sick, washing hands regularly, and listening to healthcare experts as new information becomes available.
