Volunteer: Contemporary Circus Seeks Board Member

The Cabiri is seeking dedicated, passionate community leaders to serve as volunteer board members to help further our mission to transport modern audiences into the myths and stories of lesser-known ancient cultures through the performing arts.

Our ideal board candidate brings legal experience, financial experience, communications and/or marketing experience, donor development, grant writing, or previous board experience but all are welcome and encouraged to apply.

Role of Board Members

Board members invest time, energy and resources into helping the Cabiri sustain its important work by adopting sound, ethical, and legal governance and financial management policies, as well as making sure the nonprofit has adequate resources to advance its mission.

Expectations/Responsibilities for Board members:

1. Be present for bi-monthly board meetings held in the odd-numbered months of the year in the Seattle area (location varies).

2. Actively participate in an annual strategic/operational planning process to set goals for achieving the organization's vision, mission, and purpose.

3. Demonstrate leadership by adhering to the highest standards of ethical actions in decision-making and by financially supporting the organization at a level that is personally significant.

4. Enhance the organization's public standing by promoting the organization's mission, accomplishments, and goals to the public.

5. Ensure that the appropriate organizational structures are in place to support mission and strategic plan; this includes bylaws, policies, and committees.

6. Provide proper financial oversight by assisting in the development of an annual budget, approving the budget, assuring that proper financial controls are in place, and regular review spending and organizational accounts.

7. Ensure that adequate financial resources are available by assisting in the development of an annual fundraising plan, approving the plan, and supporting fundraising efforts through individual volunteer action and personal giving.

8. Support the organization in recruiting and training board members, assessing board performance, and ensuring that individual board members fulfill their commitments.

9. Commit to at least one 1-year board term, with possibility of extension.

10. Passion for the performing arts and mythology.

11. Willingness to devote time to board duties, roles, and responsibilities as outlined above.

12. Willingness to be a team member and dedicate the time necessary to become familiar with the purpose, operations, plans, and programs of the Cabiri.

13. Open mindedness and commitment to making the best decision for the whole organization.

14. Ability to keep confidential information confidential.

15. Disclosure of any and all conflicts of interest.

If you are interested in this opportunity, please submit your information for consideration and we will reach out to schedule an informal meet and greet coffee with you in the near future. We are happy to answer your questions and provide additional information about the Cabiri, our work, our structure and history, and our short and long term strategic goals at that time. Candidates will also be invited to attend an upcoming board meeting as a guest, to meet other board members and observe our process and dynamic. Candidates who are interested in joining the board after meeting with our leadership and attending a meeting will be officially nominated to serve on the board and all current board members will vote to approve or disapprove membership. We look forward to speaking with you!
