Join us to celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by creating healthy forests here in Burien. We will be removing blackberry weeds at the park so we can replace them with indigenous plants later in the year.

Q: How will you raise awareness of - and reflect on - the role of racial and social justice within the volunteer project? A: The neighborhood around Arbor Lake Park rates a 10/10 on the Washington State Department of Health Environmental Disparities map. This is one of the reasons we are prioritizing environmental restoration work at Arbor Lake Park. As a neighborhood disproportionately impacted by the SeaTac airport, among other environmental injustices, we will discuss the intersection of environmental justice and racial justice. We will discuss environmental justice in our introduction, and encourage conversation and reflection during the day's work as well. |
