We are happy to announce that we have begun a major project to expand our Youth & Neighborhood Engagement program! That means doing what we've been doing by activating the Safeway parking lot every Friday, only at more locations and on more days of the week!
In order to make sure we can effectively activate safe spaces throughout the neighborhood, we're calling on members of the community to volunteer alongside our Corner Greeters on a weekly basis! These neighborhood engagement efforts will contribute to providing interventions aimed directly at place-based risk factors that can lead to youth crime in five hotspot ("pearl") locations.
We're looking for volunteers who:
- are interested in committing to serve 3-10 hours a week alongside RBAC Corner Greeters
- are comfortable working outside in a community setting (with proper COVID-19 precautions in place)
- are comfortable working in areas with higher incidences of crime
- are comfortable picking up litter and debris
- can use a smartphone to send and receive documents or participate in citizen journalism (or are willing to learn how!)
If that sounds like you, our first cohort of Youth & Neighborhood Engagement volunteers will be out in the community starting on April 19 and running through June 3 (you are welcome to participate through an unlimited number of cohorts, but this is the minimum period of time we ask for volunteers to commit to).
