Counting everyone who calls Washington home through the 2020 Census is how funding gets where it’s needed for the next ten years—for things like our schools, affordable housing, hospitals, and public transportation. An accurate count also determines how many representatives Washington State will have in Congress. COVID-19 has disrupted several aspects of census operations and the timeline to complete the census has just been cut short by one month, so it’s more important than ever for us to join together—as a neighborhood, a city, a county, a state, and a country—and make sure each and every one of us is counted NOW.
On Wednesday, 9/16, United Way of King County is partnering to bring BIPOC-owned food trucks to areas in South King County with low census self-response rates to serve three purposes: (1) provide free meals to the community, (2) support local businesses, and most urgently, (3) encourage households to complete the 2020 Census onsite.
On Monday, September 14th, help our 2020 Census team with promotion and outreach prior to this event on September 16th by stopping by the United Way of King County office to collect flyers and other promotional materials. Volunteers will then drive to SeaTac or Tukwila and post flyers in local businesses, bulletin boards, community centers, gas stations, grocery stores, etc. More details on the distribution will be provided when the materials are picked up on September 14th.
Materials can be picked up at United Way on Monday, September 14th between the hours of 10:00-11:30am, and should be distributed in SeaTac/Tukwila that same day.
