Description

The Seattle Public Library provides homework help and learning activities for K-12 students throughout the school year, September 11, 2023 until June 13, 2024. Volunteers support students with their homework assignments and with developing literacy, mathematics and study skills.

The Homework Help Program supports diverse communities in Seattle. Volunteers and Library staff support students to advance racial equity and close the education opportunity gap for students. Volunteers provide a supportive learning environment where students and their families are welcome.

Because the program primarily serves elementary school students, we are seeking volunteers who enjoy tutoring children. Volunteers must be comfortable tutoring youth in various subjects on a drop-in basis.

We request a volunteer commitment for the entire school year (or at least six months). Volunteers will be scheduled to provide Homework Help once a week when Seattle’s public schools are in session. Those volunteers who have variable job and/or school schedules can be scheduled as substitute Homework Helpers at least twice a month.

Below are the volunteer openings for weekly and substitute Homework Helpers at the South Park Branch, 8604 8th Avenue S.

  • Monday, 3:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, 3:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m.

Homework Helpers must be a high school graduate and have completed at least one quarter of college or a vocational program. If you would like to tutor youth at the South Park Branch, please click "Respond" to request a volunteer application. Thanks!
