Hunger Intervention Program's mission is to increase food security for underserved populations in North King County through nutritious meals, educational programs, and advocacy. HIP envisions a world where nutritious food is accessible to everyone in our community.
For MLK Day, volunteers will help with various tasks centered around HIP's Senior Community Meal and Healthy HIP Packs programs. The day will begin with a brief introduction to the organization and food justice. Then, volunteers will help by preparing meals for the Senior Community Meal, repackaging bulk items into smaller portions for weekend food packs, setting up for a HIP Packs packing party, serving meals at the Senior Community Meal service, cleaning kitchen spaces, and other duties. At the end of the day, volunteers will share their reflections on the activities they engaged in, keeping in mind the concept of food justice. If time allows, the day will end with a letter-writing session to legislators advocating food-justice priorities.
Volunteers must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and will be asked to wear masks.
