Join us for an evening of service in honor of Dr. MLK at our traditional meal and community awareness gathering called *"Jueves Pozolero." Adults and youth will engage in learning about the School to Prison Pipeline; Latino H.E.A.T. (Hispanos En Acción Together) youth will facilitate a Talking Circle for all participants. Additionally, in order to encourage and inspire student/teachers/administrators to take action on the lessons of Dr. MLK, we will also create a set of recommendations for the 2018-19 Dr. MLK school assembly for our local schools and provide to their Associated Student Body (ASB) membership.
We welcome all. The Latino H.E.A.T. youth leadership & culture group and would like to collaborate with Dr. MLK community service day volunteers (youth and adults) to learn, reflect, dialogue and create a call to action for more caring environments to positively impact the school to prison pipeline. Black Student Union members, ASB, student groups, teachers, school administrators Police officers, elders and any concerned individual is encouraged to join us. Our hope is to inspire all to recall Dr. King's message, "The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character-- that is the goal of true education."
