We are hosting a restoration weekend to improve the trail around Heli’s Pond! Help clear debris and brush to widen the trail and restore access to the pond.
Goals of the work parties include:
— Re-widen the trail to its previous “arm-span” width
— Widen the existing access/view corridors at the entrance and bridge
— Create an additional formal access/view point on the far side of the pond, and add a trail spur to this location.
We will provide supervision, gloves, and tools, but feel free to bring your favorite (labeled!) shears and loppers.
Coffee, water and baked goods will be at the ready at the Kiosk at 8:30 on Saturday and Sunday for hungry and thirsty volunteers.
Dates: Saturday, June 23rd and Sunday, June 24th
Times: 8:30 am – 12:00 pm
Location: Heli’s Pond in Gold Creek Valley
Directions: From I-90 Exit 54 at Hyak, turn left under the freeway, turn right onto Forest road 4832, cross the bridge over Gold Creek, and turn left onto Gold Creek Pond Road.
Where to Meet: Assemble in the Gold Creek parking lot. We will meet you there and caravan to the access gate.
Where to Park: We will be parking along the Gold Creek trail road.
*Note: The Gold Creek Trail parking lot requires a NW Forest Pass or a $5 daily fee so we will assemble in the parking lot, but park along the Gold Creek trail road.
What to bring: Come dressed for the weather (rain or shine) in clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Wear sturdy closed-toe shoes (rubber boots, hiking/tennis shoes), long sleeves, long pants, warm layers and bring a rain jacket. We will have tools and gloves for you to use! Help reduce waste by bringing your own refillable water bottle if you have one.
All ages are welcome, but we encourage all volunteers under the age of 15 to be accompanied by an adult. If you are a volunteer under 18 and attending the event without a parent or guardian, please print and bring this Forterra Youth Waiver signed by a parent or guardian.
