As a provider of housing for families experiencing homelessness, there is no end to the cleaning and repair needed at our buildings. As a small non-profit, we also try to stretch every dollar, as we would rather spend on the families in the program than on maintenance! But maintenance is a necessary evil, so we would love to have a group of volunteers help us with the following tasks: organize our furniture storage, prep our community garden for spring, add bark chips to our playground site, and various odd jobs around the property.

Q: How will you raise awareness of - and reflect on - the role of racial and social justice within the volunteer project? A: Our mission is to help families in crisis find the stability needed not only to regain permanent housing but to maintain their housing. Like Dr. King, we are passionate about helping bridge the gap between those who have so much and those who have so little. Our project will involve clean up and repair to the site where families live so that it feels cleaner, dignified and more welcoming. We hope the volunteers on MLK Day will find this project not only inspiring but a great way to honor his legacy social justice. They will be a living example of his belief that "everybody can be great because anybody can serve." |
