MLK Day March Peacekeeper volunteers work in pairs to ensure the march is peaceful and safe for all participants.
Volunteers are strongly encouraged to attend a training on Saturday, January 6, 11am-1pm, New Freeway Hall, 5018 Rainier Avenue South, on what the day looks like, communications protocols, and other important details. Volunteers are welcome to stay for a 1 hour communications training for Peacekeeper captains immediately following. If you or your group is unable to attend the training, please contact Justina Guyott, mailto:jguy.dunlap@gmail.com, 206.322.3304 for further instructions.
Volunteers will:
- assemble and direct marchers immediately following the rally at Garfield High School
- guide and manage crowds from Garfield to the march location downtown for a brief program
- help marchers access buses and/or continue marching to return to Garfield
- ensure communication with march leaders if any issues arise during the march
A late lunch (free) will be served to all interested volunteers and marchers back at Garfield. Please visit our site for regular updates on MLK Day Seattle Celebration activities www.mlkseattle.org #mlkseattle
Every year the Martin Luther King Jr (MLK) Seattle Celebration Committee organizes a large scale celebration in the only geographic jurisdiction named in Dr. King's honor. The annual MLK Seattle Celebration includes morning workshops, an opportunity fair, a rally, a march from Garfield High School to downtown rally, and free lunch back at Garfield.
