MLK Youth Event volunteers create a positive experience for guests, performers, and the community members that attend the MLK Young Leaders event on January 14, 2024 (volunteering starts at 12:30 - event starts at 2pm). Discover inspiring speakers, performers, and visionary community leaders- all together to spotlight and develop youth potential. Come enjoy a day of empowerment, connection, and celebrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.!
This is a FREE event that is open to the community. Note the location is the McKinney Center at 2120 S. Jackson, Seattle.
This youth-led event needs flexible volunteers willing to help wherever needed - with set-up, greeting/check-in, stage support, food prep, clean-up and more. Volunteers 14-35 are ideal - younger children accompanied by an adult are also welcome to volunteer.
Volunteers will:
- Set-up the stage, tables and chairs, help the DJ, caterer, and talent unload and get ready. Direct people to the parking lot and street parking
- Welcome people to the building, direct them to the performance hall, pass out programs
- Help set-up and serve food and refreshments, clean-up spills, and tidy up after,
- Help anyone with special needs (such as guide people with visual impairment or that need the elevator). Help caterer and talent pack-up belongings and load from the building.
- Following the event, return the space to its original state - returning tables/chairs and cleaning up all areas of the building.
You may be split into sub-teams to focus on specific tasks. Please let your volunteer leader know if there are any activities above you cannot do. Your volunteer leader will work with you to determine timing of shifts.
We welcome all volunteers to join us the following day at Garfield High School. Information on workshops, job fair, march and rally is updated regularly at www.seattlemlkcoalition.org #MLKSeattle
