Description

Saturday, March 7th 9am-12pm, Kubota Garden Foundation is teaming up with Seattle Parks and Rec to prune the 100s of swordferns at Kubota Garden. This work party helps the sword ferns look refreshed and also produces many yards of plant material edible for various animals at Woodland Park zoo. After being cut, the swordfern leaves stay edible for a long time which is ideal browse for hippos, rhinos, and goats!

Pruning swordferns is very satisfying and together we can accomplish a lot in one morning. Gloves, "slicey dicey" tools, coffee, snacks, and instruction are all provided. Come dressed in layers of clothing that you don't mind getting dirty. Wear sturdy footwear like hiking boots, rain boots, sneakers or work boots. This work involves some tricky footwork by going through the garden's planting beds which has some slopes, plant roots, and dormant groundcovers.

Meet at the garden entrance gate at 9AM. Be sure to arrive on time so that you can find us and sign-in.
