JOB DESCRIPTION
Responsibilities of the Board of Directors
The Pomegranate Center Board of Directors is a group of volunteers that is legally responsible for governing Pomegranate Center. Like any non-profit board, the Pomegranate Center Board provides guidance and oversight to the CEO who is responsible for carrying out the organization’s work. The Board’s three main duties are to:
- Govern the organization and oversee that it is meeting its legal and fiscal requirements
- Collaborate with staff and CEO to determine the organizations future
- Be the link to the larger community, as ambassadors and fundraisers
More specifically, the Board’s primary responsibilities will include:
Governance and Planning
- Working with CEO and staff to determine the mission, vision, and purposeful direction of the organization
- Selection, supervision and evaluation of the CEO
- Strategic planning for the organization’s future, based on CEO and staff recommendations
- Regular monitoring and evaluating the organizations programs and operations
- Recruiting and maintaining an effective Board of Directors
Outreach and Fundraising
- Ensuring adequate resources to achieve the organization’s mission and to implement its programs and projects
- Actively participate in fundraising activities that match abilities and personal resources
- Enhancing the organization’s public image by acting as an ambassador in the community
- Making strategic connections on behalf of Pomegranate Center
- Inviting personal and professional network to fundraising events
Finance
- Fiscal oversight of the organization, including ensuring fiscal accountability
- Overseeing the process of the budget development approval and regular review
Expert Counsel and Advice as Necessary
- Human Resources
- Legal
- Adult Education
- Marketing & Communications
- Fundraising
Pomegranate Center Board Expectations and Time Commitment
- Attend all quarterly Board meetings
- Participate in at least one Board committee
- Respond in a timely manner (72 hours) to all emails/phone calls and if urgent, in 24 hours via text
- Read all materials before the meeting…come prepared
- Actively engage in fundraising activities
- Pledge an annual gift in an amount that is meaningful to the Board Member
- Participate in Board Development activities including new member orientation, the annual retreat, and year end evaluation
Generally speaking, Board Members are expected to work together and with staff in a respectful, cooperative and collaborative manner. A sense of humor is always appreciated! As a new Board Member you will bring your skills and abilities to help us grow stronger and better together in service of the Pomegranate Center Mission: to spread the seeds of collaboration across as many organizations, and public engagement meetings, as possible.
