Volunteer: Jubilee REACH Thrift Store

All profits from the Thrift Store come back to Jubilee REACH and right back into the community. In order to keep costs low at the store, we keep a minimal staff on board. This means that we need LOTS of helping hands. Every hour volunteered at the Thrift Store is giving funds back to the community.

Thrift Store Duties: Daily, our store receives a steady flow of donated items, and without help, these donations can add up quickly. Volunteers help us process these donations, prepare them to be priced, and put them out on the sales floor. Tasks typically involve hanging clothes, pairing up shoes, cutting price tags, re-arranging items on shelves, organizing books, and helping keep the sales floor "shoppable."

Your first step as a volunteer is to apply through this link: https://www.jubileereach.org/volunteer

From there, you will be prompted to schedule a Meet and Greet to talk about volunteering with us.

We look forward to getting to know you!

Volunteer: Staff the Capitol Hill Tool Library

Join our crew to learn new skills, connect with your community, and have lots of fun. No prior experience required!

How we serve the community

The Capitol Hill Tool Library empowers our neighborhood to build DIY skills and improve sustainability, through offering tool borrowing, workspace, and classes.

Our inventory includes over 3,000 items, ranging from ice cream makers to hedge trimmers to sewing machines to drills. Our workshop has spaces for woodworking, jewelry making, and 3D printing. And our classes cover everything from backpacking to kombucha brewing wood shop safety to tax prep.

We're an entirely volunteer staff, and everything we offer is free or pay-what-you-can so that we can serve everyone in the community.

What skills you’ll need

Absolutely none. Really!

Many of us (including the person writing this listing!) came to the tool library with no DIY, woodworking, or "maker" experience at all - just an interest in connecting with our neighborhood. It’s very easy to learn on the job.

What you’ll do

We're open six days per week, for three hours each day. You'll pick a day to come in for, where you and one or two other tool librarians will serve patrons and improve the library. This includes checking tools in and out (like a library book), organizing inventory, helping patrons plan their projects, designing outreach and signage, and repairing broken items.

During your first shift, you’ll get an orientation from an existing volunteer and we’ll help you find tasks that you enjoy.

Why you’ll be excited

Staffing the tool library is a fun, rewarding way to connect with your community. You’ll meet your neighbors and help them with projects that they’re infectiously enthusiastic about. You’ll also learn a ton through your own tasks - whether it’s by cataloging new inventory, chatting with patrons, or opening up and trying to repair items.

You’ll do all this while working as a team with other sociable, community-minded tool librarians who are excited to make Capitol Hill a better place. You'll also have a chance to meet tool librarians from other shifts at our monthly volunteer potlucks.

Volunteer: Marra Farm Giving Garden Work Party (Group)

Do you want to end hunger in your community?

Imagine a city where people have equal access to healthy and culturally appropriate food. The Community Food Education (CFE) at Solid Ground fosters community connections through gardening education, sustainable food production, environmental stewardship, and raising awareness about good nutrition and food justice. We also fight hunger by providing low-income individuals with seeds and materials, and supporting backyard gardeners in donating fruits and vegetables grown in King County.

If you share our vision, join us at Marra Farm Giving Garden in Seattle's South Park neighborhood! A Giving Garden Work Party offers an idyllic outdoor opportunity to bond with your coworkers. Dig into soil, plant, weed, and harvest much-needed fresh food for our neighbors as you connect with your team. With the rising cost of food, our local communities rely on fresh produce from Marra Farm more than ever. Help us grow healthy and culturally appropriate food for our neighbors in need!

Time Commitment

Help us kick off the growing season in March and April, or support us during the highest need months of July through September. We’ve already set aside most Tuesdays from 9am to 2pm during the growing season for large-group work parties, preferably with 20 or more volunteers. We encourage you to sign up for a full shift, but we ask for a minimum of three hours. Teams can consist of coworkers, community or church group members, or neighbors. All are welcome!

To Apply

Please click the Respond button below. We will get back to you within 3-5 business days with next steps.

BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color), and people with the lived experience of food insecurity are strongly encouraged to volunteer.
