Volunteer: Got love to share? Foster a cat! Or kittens!

Got love to share? Consider becoming a foster volunteer!

As a foster volunteer, you would make a short-term commitment to nurture one or more animals from the shelter in your home on a temporary basis.

Some cats need a break from living at the shelter.  Providing time in your home helps them get ready to be adopted. Many cats need a quiet patch of sunlight to recover from a cold, for example.

RASKC also offers kittens, rabbits, and dogs to foster too.

Are you in a position to help?

Among the animals that are eligible to be fostered, you choose which animal that will go home with you.

Foster volunteers are given thorough training, great support and everything necessary-- free pet food, free medical care for the kitty, free litter, free litter box, free kennel...

When the pet is ready to be adopted, you may choose to: a) Adopt to a member of the community through RASKC's Adopters Welcome program, or b) Bring the animal back to the shelter, or c) Adopt the animal yourself. You can decide when the time is right for you to foster-- on an ongoing basis or just every once in a while.

Children may participate in the animal care, though an adult in the household must be the official volunteer.

Community service might be available for school (if okay with the school). Usually 1.5 hours is credited for each day an animal is cared for in your home.

1. Complete a RASKC volunteer application.

2. Go to RASKC's website. View the training videos- Modules 1, 2, & 4 - then answer the questions.

3. Submit your completed liability-release form. If you are a youth, the form would need to be completed by your parent/ legal guardian.

Share your love and have fun as a foster parent to sweet fur-baby that needs you.

Thanks for considering this possibility. We look forward to hearing from you...

This is exhilarating work!

RASKC seeks an initial commitment of a once-a-week shift for about six months (or alternating-week shifts for about a year), equating to about 50 hours out of training.  The shelter accommodates time off for special vacations and so forth.

Key to success with RASKC dogs is kindness, positive reinforcement, and accurately reading and responding to dogs' body language.

Key to RASKC's success: a sense of great teamwork between volunteers and staff.

Typically, you would share a shift with three or four other volunteers.

Volunteers harness the dogs and take them out for exercise, affection, and enrichment. If it's super hot out, then enjoy some nice chill time on a bench under a shady tree with the dog.

Dog walkers are color-coded according to the type of dog they are eligible to walk.

. Green: Most Dog Walkers start as color "green" are eligible to work with our friendliest dogs. Not many green positions, if any, are available.

. Blue: Dog Walkers who are assessed as "blue" are eligible to take out the shy dogs and the friendly dogs.

. Red: Dog Walkers who are identified as "red" are eligible to walk any of the adoptable dogs, including the ones that need skillful handling.

RASKC needs "blue" and "red" Dog Walkers at this time.

Next steps:

Please complete RASKC's general application and our Dog Walker application. Click "respond" and we will follow up with more information.

Not eligible for court-ordered community service.

Thanks!

Organization: Regional Animal Services of King County

RASKC seeks adult volunteers who are very committed to positive dog-engagement, skilled with a wide range of large, untrained, and very energetic dogs, especially German Shepherds, Huskies, and pit bull terriers and mixes.

Volunteer: Care for a bunny in your home -short term (RASKC)

A precious bunny would love to receive care in your home for a few weeks (or a few months) until an adopter has been identified or until a spot has opened up at Reber Ranch.

Foster training is provided online with lots of one-on-one support, if needed, from RASKC's Foster Care Coordinator and/or RASKC's Lead Rabbit Volunteer.

Opening your heart and your home to an animal from the shelter on a temporary basis is one of the very best things you can do to help.

It the situation isn't working out for any reason, you can return the bunny back to the shelter the next afternoon.

Children may assist in the animal care, but an adult in the household would need to be the official foster volunteer.

Community service for school might be available (if okayed by the school). Usually 1.5 hours credit is given for each day caring for a foster animal.

Application required. Click "respond" and we will follow up with more information.

We hope to hear from you.

Volunteer: Riverton Park - Restoration at Riverton

Activities

Riverton Park is a beautiful community park with picnic tables, a playground, Gully Gardens P-Patch, and a walking loop with a natural border that offers something for everyone.

The natural plant board of the park has largely established mature trees that support wildlife, reduce pollutants in the air, and help to bring shade on hot days. Unfortunately, these trees are in danger due to English ivy, which grows aggressively and chokes out native plants and trees.

The good news is YOU ARE HERE to help; as a community, we can save these trees and install a healthy native forest; plus, it is a ton of fun!

All tools, materials, and training will be provided at the start of the work party.

Restrooms are onsite May-October. Otherwise, you may use the restroom at the Tukwila Community Center quick drive down the street

All ages OK

What to Bring

Bring a full water bottle, snacks for yourself, weather-appropriate clothes, and closed-toed shoes. If you have garden gloves, please bring them.

Where to Meet

Riverton Park: 13263 Macadam Rd S, Tukwila, WA 98168
Work parties are taking place next to the Gully Gardens P-Patch on the lower section of the park. You will see a 6ft toolbox (JOBOX) meet there.

Where to Park

Parking lot for Riverton park is located on 131st at 4124 S 131st St, Tukwila WA, 98168.

Volunteer Opportunity: Bring Joy Through Simple Companionship

 Federal Way, WA 98003

In-Person or Virtual (Phone/Grand Pad) Options Available

We’re seeking a compassionate volunteer to connect with a lovely elderly individual who is alert, oriented, and full of quiet charm. She enjoys reading, spending time with animals, and playing games on her phone.

Her greatest wish? A kind soul to sit and chat with. She lives with limited social connection, and your companionship could make her day brighter and her world a little warmer.

She would also be delighted with a visit from a furry friend. While she understands that dogs are more common visitors, she'd be overjoyed if a cat could come along—her favorite!

Whether you're up for an in-person visit or prefer a virtual connection, your presence can make a real impact.

This includes cookies, brownies, muffins, and cakes, which can be baked offsite and delivered to us. This can be a fun project for your community group, school, or church!

Operation Nightwatch has a six-decade track record of ecumenical ministry. Loving our most-vulnerable neighbors in the name of Christ, together. Annually, we have more than 65,000 encounters with folks experiencing homelessness.

One of our many services include providing 150 hot meals 365 days of the year.

We are currently looking for groups (3-7 people) to prep, cook and serve on a monthly/semi-monthly basis

You and your team can create a menu, prepare and serve the meal. A typical “shift” is from 6 – 9:45pm. Training is provided. We have a food pantry and you are welcome to use what is available.
