We have received more couches, armchairs, and loveseats in need of reupholstering. As our workspace and storage space are one in the same, the sooner these items are redone and donated to families who need them, the sooner we can bring in more.

We are looking for volunteers with sewing skills to help with this process. We provide all tools and materials needed, including our new industrial sewing machine and pneumatic staple guns! We just need you to bring your skills and knowledge to aid our cause.

Repair Days run from 10 am to 4 pm but volunteers are welcome to join for whatever amount of time suits their schedule. Please visit the calendar on our website to view available days this month. We have light snacks and refreshments available for volunteers and also have a water cooler if you would like to bring a refillable bottle.

Furniture Repair Bank is a nonprofit effort that rescues worn, torn, and broken furniture from ending up in the landfill, restores its value, and provides it to people in need. Join our community of empathic, creative, and handy individuals!

We are looking to build a roster of strong individuals who can assist with the delivery of refinished furniture pieces. Dates will vary each month. Delivery days begin around 9 a.m. at our warehouse in Seattle's SoDo neighborhood. After loading the truck, the team will deliver furniture to approximately four or five families then sometimes pick up donated furniture on the way back, ending the day around 5 p.m. Lunch will be provided as well.

If you have furniture moving experience that's great! If not, that's okay, as long as you are strong and capable and can be careful with the furniture items that our teams of volunteers have restored.

If you are interested in joining our delivery team, please submit your information and we will add you to our roster. When delivery dates are determined, we will send an email out requesting two or three people to assist for each event.

The Fundraising & Marketing Committee supports creative and strategic fundraising and marketing activities under the guidance of development staff.

This includes attending monthly meetings, contributing to the development and execution of fundraising and marketing events and campaigns, communicating fundraising priorities to the rest of the BoD and encouraging individual fundraising efforts. You will have the opportunity to gain greater insight into how to support the financial needs of executing quality programming.

Committee Meetings

-Regularly attend and actively participate in monthly committee meetings

-Review agenda and Fundraising Calendar prior to meetings 

-Assist in planning, reviewing and guiding marketing, fundraising, sponsorship,  campaigns and events, monthly giving, major donor and swag sales strategies.

-Assist in strategic donor stewardship and engagement efforts with staff

-Assist in soliciting contributions from foundations, organizations, and individuals for annual in-kind (good/services) or cash contributions.

-Assist in spreading awareness and cultivating new funding opportunities

Time commitment

We ask that Fundraising & Marketing Committee Members commit to at least a one-year term and attend 8 out of 11 monthly meetings (no meeting in December) AND 1-2 hours per month of committee specific tasks. This will provide an overall picture of how our fundraising strategy is executed during any given year.

HIP serves freshly prepared, healthy lunches to seniors as part of Lake City Senior Days three days a week. We are looking for a check-in volunteer who'll greet program participants, check them in (either using a scanner or on paper), and make them feel welcome in that space.

This role will also involve helping seniors check in for a second meal, distributing monthly menus and signup forms, collecting donations, and generally being a point of contact for program participants. We have openings on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, from 12 to 1:45 pm, but anyone who could help on any day would be helpful.

Come and have fun attending and helping at our monthly celebrations! We call them SEC Celebration events and they are at a different location every month and always on the weekends. These celebrations are designed to respond to the common challenge of isolation and inclusion that so many in the disability community can experience.

Your responsibilities can range from being a table host to such things as manning the check-in table, assist in serving, games, crafts, and greeting to name just a few. 

No experience necessary. Just come with lots of love in your heart and the desire to make others feel welcome and included.

Bridge Disability Ministries is looking for volunteers to assist us in the pick-up and delivery of donated medical equipment. 

Deliveries and pick-ups are made with the Bridge cargo vans and a valid Washington Driver's License is required as well as a driver's record check. All delivery and pick ups are within King County.

Bridge Disability Ministries is looking to place volunteers in our new equipment office location in Redmond!

The Equipment Repair Volunteer will assist with the cleaning and repair of donated durable medical equipment. This needs to be a person who is handy with tools and has mechanical repair knowledge and experience.

We are looking for volunteers who can commit to a weekly schedule of about 2 hours for one to two days a week. And we are hoping that person is you!  

As a food organization, we go through many rags and aprons and we'd love your help with laundry! We provide a document with instructions on how to thoroughly clean rags and aprons.

The laundry would be picked up from the HIP kitchen (3841 NE 123rd ST, Seattle, Washington) on Friday afternoons after 12:30 pm. Drop-off can be anytime on Monday, although it’s slightly easier after meal prep is finished at 11:30 am onwards.

This is a weekend volunteer opportunity.

There truly is no better time to volunteer. Our program needs help packing and delivering 5000 bags of food to students struggling with food and housing insecurity in our community.

Safe Harbor Stables in Redmond Washington is seeking dedicated and energetic volunteers to assist with daily barn chores. This is a highly physical role that directly supports the well-being of our rescue horses. No horse experience is necessary and we will train you to do the job.  

As a Barn Chore Volunteer, your responsibilities will include: 

Cleaning horse stalls and paddocks 

Scrubbing grain pans and sweeping barn aisles and shelter mats 

Feeding and watering the horses 

Other farm/barn maintenance 

Providing much-needed care and affection to the SAFE rescue horses 

Volunteer Requirements: 

Must be 16 years or older to volunteer independently 

Volunteers aged 8-15 are welcome with a parent/guardian volunteering alongside them 

A virtual orientation and training are required for all new volunteers and are offered regularly each month 

A minimum commitment of one shift per week for at least three months is preferred

Hunger Intervention Program's Senior Meal program prepares meals on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays for Seniors. While the majority of meals are served at the Lamb of God Church, a portion are delivered to homebound Seniors in the north Seattle area. HIP is looking for volunteer delivery drivers to deliver meals twice a month on Mondays during the lunch hour.

For this position, we're looking for someone who can commit to a 1.5-2 hour shift every other Monday from approximately 11:30 am-1:30 pm. Volunteers will be asked to use their own vehicle but will be reimbursed for gas. Ideally, we will have a consistent volunteer for this position so that they can become familiar with the route.

The Neighborhood Farmers Markets (NFM) is on a mission to support and strengthen Washington's small farms and producers by creating and operating vibrant, successful neighborhood farmers markets. Our seven markets serve over 165 producers, from vegetable growers and orchardists to tribal fishing families and cider makers. In 2023, they enabled more than $14.5 million in local, sustainably-produced food sales to Seattle residents. The Board is actively working to recruit 2 to 3 new board members this Spring, as well as non-voting committee members to support the mission of NFM and the market community. Volunteers like YOU help them feel a little less alone each day. This effort started with small motivational cards for senior citizens to help them get through this day, and has grown to include seasonal cards for the holidays.

Writing cards for seniors is not only to put lighten up the days of seniors but also to let them know there is a support system outside of their homes filled with loving young members of their community. There is no specific way to make the cards since YOU, the volunteer, have creative liberty. However, we encourage volunteers to use bright colors and inspiring messages to share love for the seniors. We have heard several positive messages from senior homes after receiving cards from SCF. From writing general motivational and inspiring cards to holiday related cards, we give them all.

Help Purrfect Pals cats find their forever homes at our cat adoption center at Renton PetSmart! Our Renton PetSmart adoption center is fully staffed by volunteers who care for the cats and match them up with potential adopters. We are always looking for more help from cat lovers with a few hours a week to spare. We ask for a commitment of 2 hours per week for at least three months.

PEPS is a non-profit organization that connects parents to strengthen families and build community through parent peer-support groups. 

PEPS groups meet weekly and are facilitated by a PEPS-trained Leader. Each meeting allows parents the opportunity to share the week's concerns, successes, issues, and joys as well as time for a discussion on topics related to parenting and children (sleeping, feeding, adjusting to parenthood, etc.) The PEPS program model is based on the 5 Protective Factors from Strengthening Families, which help build resilient families, positive connections and support for parents, and reduce negative outcomes, such as abuse and neglect. 

98% of PEPS groups are facilitated by volunteers who are deeply rooted in our community and passionate about supporting new parents through the first critical months of life with a new baby. Over 4000 families rely on PEPS volunteers each year.

PEPS facilitators are compassionate, empathetic, resourceful, and real. They don't have all the answers, but they are passionate about helping parents, generating ideas, finding information, and building neighborhood communities together.

Some leaders give back as a way of honoring their own PEPS experience. Many are new to PEPS. All tell us they find great joy and satisfaction in helping new parents connect and share through their PEPS groups.

We appreciate warm, sensitive communicators, who are accepting of varied child-rearing practices and diverse lifestyles. Interest in early childhood development, experience in education or facilitation, previous PEPS group participation, or being a parent yourself are welcome pluses.

Groups meet for 2 hrs each week in the daytime [10-:30 - 12:30] or in the Evening [6:30 - 8:30], the same day each week for 12 weeks. Leaders commit to working with their group for 12 consecutive weeks, fewer if you choose to co-lead with a friend, spouse, partner, or colleague. PEPS provides specialized training and group leaders have access to experienced PEPS staff mentorship and a wealth of resources online.

Birthday Dreams brings hope and joy to homeless children with the gift of a birthday party. All children, regardless of their circumstances, deserve to be celebrated on their special day. Role Overview 

Rainier Athletes' (RA) mission is to affirm our youth’s sense of purpose and belonging by intentionally connecting their core community of teachers, coaches, families, and mentors. Once selected, each student is paired with a dedicated one-on-one mentor in elementary and middle school and a Squad Leader in high school. Each student is also sponsored to participate in sports/extra-curricular activities year-round throughout their duration with Rainer Athletes. Students begin their RA journey in 4th grade and continue through high school graduation and beyond. 

To sustain our impact with the growing number of Rainier Athletes high school students and families, we are seeking enthusiastic, dedicated individuals to serve as Squad Leaders for small groups of high school students. Squads consist of four or five students of similar ages. Squad Leaders are tasked with building relationships with students in their squad(s) as well as their students’ families, teachers, and others in the community. 

Responsibilities include coordinating logistics and prepping for weekly hour-long Squad Meet-Ups. These Squad Meet-Ups may include topical discussions, study sessions, or other activities to strengthen relationships and build towards each student’s next step plan after high school. Collaboration is a key element to the program’s success; Squad Leaders will have hour-long weekly formal opportunities to connect with other Squad Leaders and RA’s High School Program Manager to share highlights, challenges, and best practices.

Teach refugees how to ride the bus from their home to local locations, such as the grocery store and work. We will provide bus tickets for you and the clients to plan and take a trip from their home. You can show them how to use apps and Google Maps to plan their trip.

Our CLEVER program helps professionals re-enter their field they were employed in in their home country. We provide limited cash assistance for taking classes to get US credentials in their field. CLEVER volunteers can help refugees with vocabulary practice relevant to their career, as well as with exam prep. We currently have clients in IT, CNA, Dental Assistance and Professional Management classes who could use assistance. 

Lambert House LGBTQ+ Youth Center seeks adult volunteers age 23 & older (24 or older for previous program participants) for our daily drop-in center where youth play games or pool, watch movies, chat with volunteers, and make new friends. We provide services to queer youth, 22 years of age and younger, mostly through our dedicated volunteer group.

LGBTQ+ and ally adult volunteers provide LGBTQ+ youth with hope for their futures and positive, healthy role models to look up to. Our volunteers have a major positive impact on the experience of youth in our programs, and are a core part of the youth experience at Lambert House. With a small staff, we count on volunteers to provide support throughout the agency. Drop-In Center volunteers help Lambert House create and maintain an environment of inclusion and safety for all youth. They develop meaningful, trusting relationships with youth, provide referral to services inside and outside of the organization, and enforce Lambert House policies.

Responsibilities of the Drop-in Center Volunteer

Drop-in Center Volunteers are responsible for ensuring a safe and respectful atmosphere in our drop-in center for LGBTQ participants ages 11 to 22. Responsibilities include engaging youth via activities, conversations, or games; setting limits; and being a positive role model. Our volunteers make a commitment to staff the drop-in center for one three-hour shift per week (4-7, 5:30-8:30, or 7-9:30 M-F) for a minimum of one year. We have at least three volunteers per shift, with up to 12 adults in the house in other roles.

Over 35% of our youth identify as BIPOC and we're also seeking additional BIPOC volunteers to support that population more directly.

We are looking for volunteers to act as Family Law CASAs (Court Appointed Special Advocates) in King County. A CASA advocate is a Court Appointed Special Advocate who receives training and volunteers their time to investigate and report on the best interests of a child. In tough custody cases, parents are often unable to focus on the needs of their children. Many of these children are so young they cannot speak for themselves. CASA volunteers give these children a voice in court by focusing on the needs of the child and striving to strengthen parenting skills and family relationships. 58% of the families we serve are BIPOC, and we encourage BIPOC to apply to volunteer.

What does a Court Appointed Special Advocate do?

After 21 hours of training (provided by Family Law CASA) and an orientation meeting with an Advocate Supervisor, new advocates spend an average of 60 hours over 6-9 months conducting an investigation and writing report(s). Throughout the investigation, Court Appointed Special Advocates are supported by an Advocate Supervisor (paid professional) who guides them through each step of the process. Advocates are also represented by the Family Law CASA Attorney. While each case is unique, a Court Appointed Special Advocate generally completes the following tasks:

* Interviews parents, teachers, doctors, the child and others who might provide helpful information (Due to COVID-19 these interviews can be done virtually!)

* Reviews background checks, CPS reports, chemical dependency reports and medical or psychological reports

* Asks screening questions during interviews to assess for unreported domestic violence, child abuse, substance abuse and/or mental health concerns

* Observes the child's interactions with parents and watches for developmental delays, educational delays, safety concerns or other unaddressed needs

* Writes a report that includes recommendations about what is best for the child in the case

Requirements:

Advocates come from all walks of life, careers, ages, backgrounds and demographics to serve as Court Appointed Special Advocates. To volunteer as a Court Appointed Special Advocate, you must:

* Be 21 years of age or older

* Have access to a car and the ability to drive to/from appointments

* Own and be able to use a computer, including email

* Have good communication skills and strong writing ability

* Speak and write in English (court is conducted in English without reliable access to interpreters in our cases)

* Have reasonable time available to investigate the case & write reports by the court specified due dates

* Have no criminal record

Volunteer ambassadors will have the opportunity to partake in one or more of the following types of ambassador roles.  TABLING- These events are most often linked to workplace giving. Volunteers will be provided with a packet that includes table layouts, FAQ, notes about FareStart, sample spiels and training to prepare them. Volunteers will be asked to collect supplies at FareStart, take them to the event, set up the table and then represent FareStart at the event. Legal Counsel for Youth and Children protects the interests and safety of youth in Washington by advancing their legal rights.

About Us

We accomplish our mission through direct legal representation, strong community partnerships, and systemic advocacy. LCYC serves roughly 850 young people on an annual basis through four core programs: child welfare, juvenile court, youth and family immigration, and youth homelessness. The majority of youth served by LCYC are between 12 – 24 years in age. Young people of color and LGBTQIA+ young people are overrepresented within these systems and among those served by LCYC. LCYC is committed to becoming an anti-racist organization and embraces a commitment to continual learning with board and staff members.

Are you a dog lover willing to provide wellness & care for a dog during evenings and weekends? Being a Canine Companions foster could be the perfect role for you!

As a foster volunteer you’ll give a dog in professional training a loving home while they embark on their journey to become a service dog. You’ll get to see the progress your furry companion is making in their training and be a vital part of their journey, without the commitment of looking after a dog full-time! All food, medical care, and resources are supplied to you as the foster. All dogs are either Labradors, Golden Retrievers, or a mix of these breeds, all over 1.5 years old.

Flexible options to drop off/pick up dogs from our training location in SODO Seattle or the service dog shuttle will be at the West Seattle YMCA M-Th 8:20-8:45AM/3:20-3:45PM or talk to us about ridesharing at a central location closer to you. Most fosters commit for 3-6 months.

Q: I have existing pets in my home. Can I still foster?

A: Yes, as long as your pets are friendly and get along with other animals

Q: I have small children in the home. Can I still foster?

A: Yes, the service dogs in professional training are well-behaved and have been socialized to children of all ages

Q: Do I need to know how to train a dog to foster?

A: No, all the training will be done by professional trainers while the dog is at the Puget Sound Field Office.

Volunteer Position Description: Dementia Friends Champion, WA state

Background: Dementia Friends is a global movement that is changing the way people think, act, and talk about dementia. Developed by the Alzheimer’s Society in the United Kingdom, Dementia Friends helps communities across the world understand what dementia is and how it affects people. Everyone can make a difference for people touched by dementia. Individuals interested in becoming a Dementia Friend attend a 60-minute Dementia Friends Information Session led by a Dementia Friends Champion. During the Information Session, individuals develop an understanding about what dementia is, the most common type of dementia, 5 key messages, communication tips and strategies, and ways to take action. Local resources and support are also shared. Sessions are held at various spaces out in the community, including senior centers, churches, businesses, and more.

Dementia Friends Champions undergo a 3 hour training, which includes attending a Dementia Friends Information Session. The training also covers the 5 key messages that are part of the Dementia Friends program, understanding the content and materials used to deliver a Dementia Friends Information Session, and tips for delivering a successful session. 

You don’t have to be an expert or know someone living with dementia to be a Dementia Friend!  

Dementia Friends Champion Roles and Responsibilities- In general, as a Dementia Friends Champion, your responsibilities will be:

·  To promote Dementia Friends throughout your own networks and communities.

·  To organize your time, deciding when, and where, you are available to lead Dementia Friends sessions (in collaboration with the Program Manager, if applicable)

·  To act as an ambassador for Dementia Friends, treating everyone with respect and dignity.

·  To represent the views of Dementia Friends by following the Champion’s Guide and Session Workbook.

·  To describe Dementia Friends sessions as information sessions rather than “trainings,” so that participants will have accurate expectations.

·  To promptly record your Dementia Friends sessions and the number of Dementia Friends you make as instructed.

·  To contact Katie Zeitler, Program Manager, with any questions or if you no longer wish to volunteer.

Time Commitment/Schedule:

·  Volunteer will attend one-hour Dementia Friends Information Session and two-hour Dementia Friends Champion training

Plymouth Housing owns and operates 17 permanent supportive housing units throughout downtown and surrounding neighborhoods, serving 1,400 people a year. We are looking for groups of committed volunteers to provide meal service in our buildings. This is a great opportunity to directly serve our residents and address a large need for the community. 

We ask that volunteer groups provide food and necessary materials (plates, cutlery, napkins, cups, etc.) for 50 servings. Many of our buildings have large community kitchens for food preparations in house, but we also encourage volunteers to consider ready to heat meals from home. We ask that you avoid major allergens such as nuts and seafood. We are able to accommodate any meal any day of the week. Groups should be no greater than 12 and no smaller than 4. 

Average volunteer shifts last 2-3 hours including cleaning and prep time. Each shift would be under coordinator or case management supervision.

Board of Directors – Eastside Legal Assistance Program (Bellevue, Washington) (ELAP)

Overview of ELAP

ELAP is a nonprofit dedicated to working with people facing domestic violence, housing, financial, healthcare, immigration, and other issues who need a legal solution. ELAP believes that everyone deserves access to legal help. An experience with domestic violence, an unexpected medical bill, unfair eviction, or other life challenge can set people back financially, physically, and psychologically. Yet people often don’t know how to exercise their legal rights. Legal aid is a tool that can prevent poverty and injustice. Our staff and volunteer lawyers work for free with people facing domestic violence, housing, financial, healthcare, and other problems that need a legal solution.

Role Description

ELAP is seeking applicants to serve on our board of directors. We are a financially stable 501(c)(3) in our 35th year of operation. The ELAP Board works to provide strategic governance for the organization. All Board members serve on a Board committee through which they provide more tactical support of ELAP’s mission, including supporting development efforts, implementing organizational policies, and program development and implementation.

Role Qualifications

We acknowledge that board service is a privilege often limited to individuals who are socially advantaged, based on their gender, ethnic background, sexual orientation, or race. While we value past board experience, we also value a board composition that reflects the clients that ELAP serves and brings specific skill sets or professional expertise to ELAPs work. Learning Community

The traditional CfY Learning Community offers 1:1 mentorship, small group mentorship, and whole community mentorship. Learning Community participants commit to 2 hours of volunteering a week for the academic year (October - June), with flexibility as needed and communicated with Staff. Meetings typically occur on Tuesday evenings.
Mentors in the Learning Community will:

be paired 1:1 with a student and meet once a month

join a “Family Group” of 3-4 other mentoring pairs and meet once a month

attend whole Community Workshops once a month

attend Mentor training Workshops once a quarter

Duos

Our flexible Duos program focuses on the 1:1 relationship based upon your own schedules. Duos participants commit to meeting twice a month with their match from January - June.
We highly encourage new community members to consider enrolling in the traditional Learning Community program, to experience the power of community and explore different aspects and methods of mentorship.

Eligibility requirements:

Be at least 21 years of age

Reside in the greater Puget Sound region

Be willing to adhere to all Community for Youth program policies and procedures and follow the CfY Code of Conduct

Have never been accused, arrested, charged, or convicted of child abuse or molestation

Not use alcohol or controlled substances in an excessive or inappropriate manner

Not currently be in treatment for substance abuse. If a substance abuse problem has occurred in the past, the applicant must have completed a non-addictive period of at least five years

Be vaccinated against COVID-19 and follow CfY guidelines regarding masks and safety

Join one of our informal, English Conversation Circles (ECC) at various Seattle Public Library (SPL) locations or online. These programs provide immigrants and refugees the opportunity to practice conversational English in an informal environment. Seattle Food Committee works with 27 food banks and pantries within the City of Seattle. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are working together to support our community and continue our work in the struggle against hunger.

Interested in food justice? Volunteers know what goes on behind the scenes at the White Center Food Bank, and are critical to ensuring that our community is able to access the food they need. We are currently seeking volunteers for a variety of roles, and our need is high.

As an essential service, food banks have been open the entire pandemic and greatly need your support as National Guard support on site ends in July 2021.

Hunger Intervention Program's Senior Meal program prepares lunches on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays for seniors. While the majority of meals are served at the Lamb of God Church in the Lake City neighborhood of Seattle, a portion are delivered to homebound Seniors in the north Seattle area with the help of staff and volunteer delivery drivers.

HIP is looking for BACKUP volunteer delivery drivers to deliver meals when a regular driver cannot. In the event that our regular drivers can't make it, we'll reach out to you and ask if you're available to do the delivery. You by no means are required to take the shift, especially on short notice.

Meals are picked up from the Lamb of God Church at 11:45am and are delivered to apartments and homes across North Seattle. The route takes approximately 2 hours. The volunteer will be asked to use their own vehicle, but will be reimbursed for gas.
