For 31 years, Catholic Community Services Issaquah Meals Program (IMP) has been serving hot, nutritious dinners to anyone in need, no questions-asked, Mondays-Fridays. Since COVID-19 entered our communities, IMP remains open and will continue to provide hot meals and a warm, dry space for those who have nowhere to go. However, we anticipate more individuals and families utilizing our services during this challenging time.

To help us accommodate for the anticipated growing need, we are asking financial contributions and also for supplies such as paper plates, paper cups, napkins, hand sanitizers, and disinfecting wipes for our dedicated volunteers that serve meals each night for proper and safe clean up. If you are interested in serving meals during this time or to coordinate supplies drop off, please contact Griffin Cole at 425-679-0342. We understand it is not possible for everyone to serve meals due to health concerns, we always appreciate meal donations. Please note that meals must be prepared in a commercial kitchen under supervision of someone with a food handlers permit. Additionally, there is an application process for those who would like to serve meals.

Pike Place Market is the soul of Seattle - we are 500 local businesses, 400 senior residents, specialized social service agencies, and thousands of local workers, artists, and friends. And the Market Foundation needs YOUR help in sustaining the future of this vibrant Market community!

In this COVID-19 crisis, our staff is raising vital funds and helping community members navigate pressing needs such as Market Community Safety Net requests, unemployment filings, food access, housing referrals, and so much more.

There are 3 ways you can help the Market community in its greatest hour of need: 

1. SHOP LOCAL – Essential food business at Place Market are open and have delivery, take out and online ordering options. Flower farmers, artists and specialty shops rely on online shoppers at this time. Please be intentional on how you spend your money to help small, local businesses survive this economic crisis.

2. DONATE TO OUR MARKET COMMUNITY SAFETY NET – This fund supports individuals who live, work or access services in the Market community, are facing a sudden financial crisis and need support to regain stability. Since the COVID-19 crisis emerged 2 weeks ago, the demand has skyrocketed and we anticipate the need will overwhelm our existing system. We’ve already received more than 1,000 calls for support.

3. GIVE TO OUR SPRING HYGIENE DRIVE– Give new and unused toiletries to keep our Market community services and clients healthy in this time of need.

The covid-19 crisis is a deafening wake-up call of the inadequacy of health care availability and access in America, and of the fiscal politization of our public health system. Health Care for All Washington has long advocated for universal access and coverage of health care. Our mission is high quality, sustainable, affordable, publicly financed, privately delivered health coverage for all Washington residents. We seek to eliminate the stark disparities in health and health care by race, ethnicity, class, gender, and citizenship status; and to expand and rebuild our public health system capable of rapid response and resiliency in the face of contagion or catastrophe.

Most of us want to make a difference, to leave the world a better place. People who have health problems, or who would be financially devastated by an illness or accident, are on the sidelines of life.  .We believe that Health Care for All Washington is making a difference, because access to health care enables admittance to life and all she has to offer:  liberty, freedom, and the pursuit of happiness. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health care is the most shocking and inhumane.”

Formed in 1994, HCFA-WA is the oldest grassroots organization in Washington that is solely dedicated to bringing about publicly funded, privately delivered universal health care. Two-thirds of its Board of Directors are healthcare professionals, providing expert guidance and insight into the development of public policy. And we have been effective. HCFA-WA was instrumental in the progression and passage of the Pathway to Universal Health Care Bill, as well as the Cascade Care Bill, in 2019. This year, HCFA-WA advanced several bills containing costs of prescription drugs and addressing the cost of insulin; the bills we incubated passed with nearly unanimous support.

We seek individuals committed to the evolution of our health care system. While we always need and welcome providers in healthcare, HCFA-WA is in need of those with backgrounds in financial analysis, budgeting, fiscal policy, legal compliance and disclosure, public relations, and communications, governance, and development.

Determine the policies and board procedures necessary to advance single-payer universal health care in Washington; strengthen the organization’s research and policy development; ensure the organization is operating at peak efficiency and in full compliance with all applicable laws and intent; expand HCFA-WA’s membership; raise funds to support the operation of HCFA-WA’s programs; and directly advocate in the public policy arena.

During these challenging times we are experiencing a significant decrease in donations.  Serenity is in need of financial help as well as in-kind donations of supplies to feed our horses. 

We have 22 horses on our 10 acre farm that are being supported 100% by donations. Primarily we need someone to answer phones and take messages from time to time, however, the Volunteer may be asked to help with other small tasks. This is not a physically taxing position; it mostly centers around communications work for our housing team. You are free to work on your own things when there is downtime. This volunteer should also note that we serve a high number of Somali and East African people, so language barriers are a part of the package. Members of our Housing team speak Somali and Arabic, so the calls would simply be passed along to whoever can manage them.

Estimated Time Commitment: Mostly mornings and afternoons, as many hours as the volunteer can commit to. Would prefer 2-4 hours a week.

The Sophia Way’s Mission 

To help end homelessness for women in King County by providing shelter, case management, life skills training, social services, and housing (transitional, supportive, and permanent).

The Opportunity

Every day, we serve three meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) to nearly 100 women who come to our shelters. The meals are provided by our generous community and we are deeply appreciative of their support.

Providing a meal requires no long-term commitment, training, or background check. All you have to do is sign up online for an available date, then cook (or buy) a meal and drop it off at our location. This is a great opportunity for individuals, families, groups, who love to cook! You can be a one-time or a regular donor.

At SYFC we believe in enriching the children in our afterschool program through projects, crafts, field trips and other opportunities. Some of our students need extra attention, whether that be because they have attention issues, problems at home, or simply act out. A Mentor’s responsibility is to partner with the staff to determine which students need the most attention. These are the kids the Mentor will focus on, spending the majority of their time with these students walking them through activities or homework, getting to know them and assuring they respect their instructors. For this reason, we are looking for younger people, High School to College age who can assert a positive impact on their assigned students. Many of the responsibilities are the same as the General Volunteer, however, a Mentor will have designated students to spend the majority of their time with.

Estimated Time Commitment: Very Flexible, set your own hours. Would prefer 3 hours or more a week.

YEAR-ROUND VOLUNTEERING 

SIFF CINEMA LEAD USHER TEAMS 

SIFF Cinema Lead Usher Teams are comprised of volunteers who are each able to commit to one shift per week, with each shift happening around the same time on the same day of the week at either the SIFF Cinema Egyptian or the SIFF Cinema Uptown. This commitment runs from January through June and/or July through December. In exchange for their time, our Lead Usher Team members will receive a Festival Admit 1 Pass for each six-month period completed.
 

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS

FAQs
- What is the time frame of the shifts?
On Monday through Friday, shifts are generally scheduled between 5:00 PM and 10:00 PM. On weekends, we have two shifts per day, generally scheduled between 12:00 PM and 5:00 PM or between 5:00 PM and 10:00 PM.

The length of these shifts is determined by the weekly programming schedule, so each shift might range from one to five hours. Because show times can vary or change, some flexibility in your schedule is preferable.

Flexibility is especially important for January to June as this team schedule occurs during the Festival.

Show times will most definitely change and vary based upon Festival programming.

- Do I have to commit for all six months?
Yes. We understand, however, if something unexpected comes up and you cannot make a shift. Please note that it is your responsibility to find a substitute for your shift. Failure to do so may result in a change of benefits and/or removal from the volunteer program.

- What if I have to miss a shift?
If you miss more than three shifts without finding a replacement, we will have to find someone else to take your place for the rest of the shifts through the end of the commitment. Those who work all their shifts (or find someone to work a shift they can’t make) will receive a Festival pass; those who aren’t able to will receive Cinema vouchers for the time that they’ve put in so far.

- When does SIFF recruit for Cinema Lead Usher Teams?

ABOUT

After School All-Stars is one of the leading national after-school program providers in the country.  Our comprehensive school-based programs combine academics, enrichment, and health and wellness activities to help students build the knowledge and skills they need to succeed, both in school and in life. Founded by Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1992, ASAS is building a national model for after-school program delivery through our 19 chapters, all of which serve nearly 90,000 youth in major urban localities. ASAS launched programs in the Puget Sound region during Fall 2016 and serves approximately 600 economically disadvantaged students in three middle schools (Meeker Middle School—Kent School District, Dimmitt Middle School—Renton School District, and Showalter Middle School—Tukwila School District).

After-School All-Stars Puget Sound’s Advisory Board is a body that works closely with the Executive Director to facilitate and guide the execution of our mission. We are primarily composed of corporate employees from the finance, hospitality, tech, real estate and food and beverage industries. One of the biggest barriers seniors face in accessing medical care is lack of transportation. Poor vision or medical conditions prevent them from driving, limited mobility makes it impossible to take the bus, taxis come with prohibitive costs, and loved ones have full-time jobs that render them unavailable to help. Yet, since 1975, Sound Generations Volunteer Transportation has served as a trustworthy resource for older adults throughout King County. With its force of kind and reliable volunteers, the program provides the missing link between seniors and their necessary medical care.

But the value of Volunteer Transportation extends far beyond the rides themselves. A volunteer driver serves as a friendly escort-- a companion-- someone to talk to along the way. Volunteers turn previously stressful ordeals into pleasant, meaningful experiences.

More volunteer drivers are needed throughout King County! The program is currently unable to serve all seniors in need of transportation.

You can help more seniors get “on the road” to improved health and peace of mind! If you have a reliable vehicle, a clean driving record, and some weekday availability, this is the role for you!

Once a month, and twice a month in the winter, we travel to wherever people are staying and provide food, hot beverages, warm clothing, bus tickets, basic first-aid, survival needs, and information on services. We also provide food and basic veterinary care for our client's pets where possible. We think of ourselves as somewhat of a delivery service for our clients.

We meet for outreach on the second Saturday of every month between April and December and the second and fourth Saturdays of every month from January through March. Outreach runs from 630am until approximately 11:00am and volunteers need to be available to attend for the entire outreach unless they have made arrangements to leave earlier ahead of time.

Your time volunteering would be spent preparing food and supplies, loading vehicles, and driving/hiking the supplies directly to where our clients are living. While not required, we thrive on having a group of committed volunteers who are able to attend outreach on a consistent basis.

What is CHOICES?

CHOICES is an interactive decision-making workshop that focuses on keeping teens in school, motivating them toward their education and future, and introducing them to practical life skills, such as time management, money management, goal setting and self discipline to help them succeed.  Volunteers take students through interactive real-world exercises about the consequences of dropping out and the opportunities gained by staying in school. Started by a Seattle dad in 1984 to break through to his son, we have since served 6 million teens across the nation.
 

Techbridge Girls is an award-winning nonprofit that provides free after-school STEM education to girls in the South Seattle area. We are looking for women in STEM to become Techbridge Girl Role Models and come speak to the girls in our programs about the variety of work in STEM fields and any challenges they overcame during their career. With this model we hope to breakdown STEM stereotypes and encourage girls to realize that a STEM career is achievable.

We only ask that volunteers participate in a brief 30 minute online training session!

Provide assistance to Front Desk staff with clerical duties, daily operations, program, services, scanning
documents, and small projects as needed. Greet families in the lobby of the South King County Family
Resource Center in Kent. Greet donors and assist with in-kind donation intake.

Vietnam Health Clinic (VHC) is currently recruiting for new board members in the Greater Seattle area and we want you to join our community of college students, healthcare professionals and motivated leaders who are looking to make a difference. VHC is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving health care access and services to under-resourced populations of Vietnam, while promoting proactive learning and firsthand experience in primary care for our student members. VHC hosts mobile health clinics in rural Vietnam, providing services such as medical, dental, optometry, physical therapy, pharmaceutical and public health education. With the help of student members and healthcare professionals along with our local community, sponsors and volunteers, we have been able to provide aid to over 13,000 patients over the past ten years. We have now started to expand our health services to support low-income patients in the Greater Seattle area as well, starting with a partnership with International Community Health Services (ICHS).

What’s unique about VHC is that we integrate student mentorship into the goal of our mobile health clinic, providing student members with valuable clinical experience working alongside healthcare professionals in Vietnam. Leading up to the mobile health clinic, we train students to prepare for every aspect of an international mobile health clinic - from measuring vitals, taking medical history, interpret and assist our health professionals to cultural competency. In addition, all students work to raise funds, acquire supplies, and plan logistics for the trip; allowing them to develop important skills like communication, work ethic, leadership and teamwork. Since the creation of VHC, over 350 students have volunteered with us and more than 40% have gone on to successfully pursue careers in healthcare.

VHC board members provide valuable guidance and resources to strengthen the impact that our nonprofit has on the community while helping to guide the lives of young people. A private nonprofit, KCSARC has been on the frontline for over 40 years working directly in sexual assault advocacy, treatment, public policy, and prevention.

The victims and families we help are as diverse as our many communities. 50% of our clients are under the age of 18. KCSARC has specialized programming for the Spanish-speaking community (Dando Voz) and innovative approaches to addressing the intersection of homelessness and sexual assault through Project360.

Provide door to door service from seniors’ homes to medical appointments in your own vehicle. Must be comfortable navigating to new locations and contacting seniors on the phone. A twice monthly commitment of 1-2 hours is preferred.

Homestead Community Land Trust is governed by 12 Delegates that provide governance and oversight of operations in furtherance of our founding purposes and mission.

As a Board member, you can help ensure Homestead grows as a vibrant, community-based effort providing a legacy of permanently affordable homes throughout King County. As a Board member of Homestead you will change lives and leave a legacy of affordability - permanently affordable homes - in our community.

Homestead’s board includes 1/3 seats for Homestead homeowners, 1/3 seats for Homestead general members, and 1/3 seats representing the community at large. In this way, governance of the organization is balanced to represent both the residents and the community as a whole. The board currently has 12 seats.

Lead educational hatchery tours for schools visiting the hatchery in the Fall and manage community outreach events for Friends of the Issaquah Salmon Hatchery (FISH).

Fall is the busiest time of year for the Issaquah Salmon Hatchery! Chinook salmon begin to arrive in the Issaquah Creek in late August and early September and they continue to arrive along with coho salmon until mid-November. The salmon are returning to their birthplace to spawn and complete their incredible life cycles! During spawning season, FISH leads an average of 9,000 visitors on educational tours throughout the hatchery grounds. In early October, the hatchery will be a focal point of Issaquah's Salmon Days, celebrating the annual return of the salmon to Issaquah Creek.

FISH docents are needed for our fall tour season. Volunteers are needed for the following tasks:

About Friends of the Issaquah Salmon Hatchery (FISH)

The Issaquah hatchery is the most visited of the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife’s hatcheries, with thousands of visitors every year. As the region grapples with change to the natural environment, Friends of the Issaquah Salmon Hatchery (FISH) highlights the presence of salmon in Issaquah Creek to cultivate a sense of wonder about these remarkable fish.

We strive to tell the story of salmon here in such a way that fosters a natural, life-long commitment to their well-being.

REQUIREMENTS:

Volunteers must be at least 16 years old to volunteer, with parental consent. All volunteers must pass a background check. Tour guides must be able to stand/walk for an hour at a time - tours are approximately 45 minutes long and require the tour guide to walk around the hatchery. Hatchery grounds are ADA accessible. All volunteers must attend the volunteer orientation on September 7th, 2019.

Volunteer Citizenship Preparation Tutors: 6-month commitment /once a week to provide instruction based on U.S. History and Civics to help students prepare for the United States citizenship exam.

To volunteer as citizenship tutor you must be at least 18 years old and fluent in English.

Join us here at Hickman House (HH) to help with our children's programs. You can make a significant impact in the lives of families who have had to leave their homes and belongings behind to find safety. Our children's programs create a more peaceful and nurturing environment for residents to heal and continue on their path towards self-sufficiency. HH offers children's groups with activities that include tutoring, field trips, playgroups, arts & crafts, cooking classes and much more! Volunteer for one group per week, one group per month or even to come in and teach a skill or do a special project!

Hickman House is a confidentially located program for adult survivors of domestic violence with children, who have become homeless as a result of fleeing domestic violence. We provide fully furnished individual apartments, comprehensive case management for the entire family, financial empowerment education, a children's program, safety planning skills and housing search support. Hickman House has ten apartments for families, staff offices, a children's playroom and an outdoor courtyard. We rely on wonderful volunteers like you to do everything that we do!

The Human Resources Administrator is looking for 1-2 volunteers to assist with job postings/tracking postings using websites, networks, email contacts, and social media. The volunteer should be proficient in Microsoft Office and Outlook with strong communication and organizational skills. Degree in Business, Communication, Human Resources or other related field preferred.

Spanish proficiency preferred. Flexible within business hours. Monday-Friday: 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM

Home visitors need assistance preparing children’s activities that are taken on visits. These activities can help with a child’s motor function, excel their creativity or introduce them to new ways to learn colors, patterns or numbers. We utilize recycled products. There is no limit to creativity when helping a child learn. Tasks will include cutting, laminating, coloring and taping/gluing.

These volunteers will be needed for approximately 2 months. If you are creative or love arts and crafts, this opportunity is for you! 

Monday-Friday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM with flexibility on the schedule. 

We also need a volunteer to assist with the Home-Visiting Program during monthly family group connections. Duties include assisting with childcare, set-up/clean-up, and helping during crafts/activities. Must speak Spanish. 

Wednesday from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM. This volunteer will be needed 1 Wednesday/month; typically the first Wednesday.

AofH's mission is to provide equitable, culturally-responsive, holistic and person-centered homeless prevention services for our most At Risk Youth ages 12-26.

We are a small grassroots nonprofit seeking assistance from a CPA in bookkeeping, compiling budget data, financial strategic planning, using QuickBooks to construct financial documents and maintain reports, tax preparation, performing accounts payable and accounts receivable.

-participate in the late-summer new leader training weekend of September 8th and 9th ($45 fee)
-maintain current membership in the Sierra Club (membership rates vary-standard rate is $38)

-become an active leader on one of ICO's established school teams

The AARP Fraud Helpline is seeking dedicated volunteers to staff its fraud helpline. The helpline fields thousands of calls each year from individuals across the country who are inquiring about and reporting instances of fraud and scams targeting older adults.

Fraud helpline volunteers must acquire a working knowledge of the telephone system and documentation procedures associated with the program. Training on fraud and taking calls/returning messages will be provided in addition to on-the-job shadowing.

TIME COMMITMENT

We ask fraud helpline volunteers to commit to working at least one 3-4-hour shift weekly. However, we are flexible with scheduling volunteers who exhibit dedication to the program. We work during regular business hours, M-F.

For more than 60 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters has been making a difference in the lives of youth facing adversity throughout King and Pierce counties. Volunteer mentors have been the foundation of much of the work we do, yet we recognize that many talented and driven individuals aren’t able to make the ongoing commitment mentoring requires.

The role of Donation Bin Ambassador requires less time and energy, but still contributes to a brighter future for our kids. To help fund mentoring programs, our donation center collects and resells clothing, shoes, and other household items. Each bin raises an average of $5500 per year, which goes to directly impacting the work we do and supporting local youth. As we grow to serve more kids, we need to add bins throughout King and Pierce counties.

If you believe your workplace or community group would be willing to host a Big Brothers Big Sisters donation bin, we’d love to know! As a Donation Bin Ambassador, you would be responsible for promoting the program to your coworkers and community, as well as informing Big Brothers Big Sisters when the bin is full so we can schedule pick up. The time commitment is limited, but you can make a major impact!
