Volunteer: Donate Supplies to a Meals ProgramFor 31 years, Catholic Community Services Issaquah Meals Program (IMP) has been serving hot, nutritious dinners to anyone in need, no questions-asked, Mondays-Fridays. Since COVID-19 entered our communities, IMP remains open and will continue to provide hot meals and a warm, dry space for those who have nowhere to go. However, we anticipate more individuals and families utilizing our services during this challenging time.
To help us accommodate for the anticipated growing need, we are asking financial contributions and also for supplies such as paper plates, paper cups, napkins, hand sanitizers, and disinfecting wipes for our dedicated volunteers that serve meals each night for proper and safe clean up. If you are interested in serving meals during this time or to coordinate supplies drop off, please contact Griffin Cole at 425-679-0342. We understand it is not possible for everyone to serve meals due to health concerns, we always appreciate meal donations. Please note that meals must be prepared in a commercial kitchen under supervision of someone with a food handlers permit. Additionally, there is an application process for those who would like to serve meals.

Volunteer: Health Care for All-Washington Board of DirectorsThe covid-19 crisis is a deafening wake-up call of the inadequacy of health care availability and access in America, and of the fiscal politization of our public health system. Health Care for All Washington has long advocated for universal access and coverage of health care. Our mission is high quality, sustainable, affordable, publicly financed, privately delivered health coverage for all Washington residents. We seek to eliminate the stark disparities in health and health care by race, ethnicity, class, gender, and citizenship status; and to expand and rebuild our public health system capable of rapid response and resiliency in the face of contagion or catastrophe. Most of us want to make a difference, to leave the world a better place. People who have health problems, or who would be financially devastated by an illness or accident, are on the sidelines of life. .We believe that Health Care for All Washington is making a difference, because access to health care enables admittance to life and all she has to offer: liberty, freedom, and the pursuit of happiness. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health care is the most shocking and inhumane.” Formed in 1994, HCFA-WA is the oldest grassroots organization in Washington that is solely dedicated to bringing about publicly funded, privately delivered universal health care. Two-thirds of its Board of Directors are healthcare professionals, providing expert guidance and insight into the development of public policy. And we have been effective. HCFA-WA was instrumental in the progression and passage of the Pathway to Universal Health Care Bill, as well as the Cascade Care Bill, in 2019. This year, HCFA-WA advanced several bills containing costs of prescription drugs and addressing the cost of insulin; the bills we incubated passed with nearly unanimous support. We seek individuals committed to the evolution of our health care system. While we always need and welcome providers in healthcare, HCFA-WA is in need of those with backgrounds in financial analysis, budgeting, fiscal policy, legal compliance and disclosure, public relations, and communications, governance, and development. Purpose of New Board and Committee PositionsDetermine the policies and board procedures necessary to advance single-payer universal health care in Washington; strengthen the organization’s research and policy development; ensure the organization is operating at peak efficiency and in full compliance with all applicable laws and intent; expand HCFA-WA’s membership; raise funds to support the operation of HCFA-WA’s programs; and directly advocate in the public policy arena. Term: Three years, eligible for re-nomination thereafter. Meeting Attendance Monthly board meetings (12) per year, in person or by ZOOM Standing committee meeting (serve on 1 or 2; meetings vary) Ad hoc committee (as appointed) Special events (as announced) Occasionally: Program events as announced (as a board representative), Training in board membership Annually: Board Planning Retreat (June), Annual Meeting (October/November) Primary Board Member Responsibilities Develop and ensure policies and procedures that are in harmony with the agency’s mission. Ensure effective program planning, development and accountability. Secure financial and other resources required to support, sustain and grow HCFA-WA legislative and policy efforts by mobilizing the active participation of all volunteers and supporters. Ensure the financial affairs for the agency are conducted on a responsible basis in accordance with the law, established policies and donor designations. Specific Duties of Individual Board Members Understand HCFA-WA: believe and act on its mission, goals, objectives; and advocate for HCFA-WA within the community; promote HCFA-WA in ways appropriate to your profession and contacts. Attend meetings - regularly, on time, and throughout for the entire meeting. Be well informed and prepared on all meeting agenda items. Participate fully and openly in meetings – share insights, ideas and suggestions based on experience and professional expertise. Consider and respect other points of view, make constructive suggestions and help the board make prudent group decisions. Participate as an active member on at least one standing committee, as well as any special ad hoc committees to which appointed. Be a financial supporter of HCFA-WA, making an annual contribution appropriate to your personal circumstances. Volunteer: AUBURN, Give rides to change lives, drive a senior in need!Seniors need your help! Getting to the doctor’s office is a daunting task for many local seniors. Poor vision or medical conditions prevent them from driving; limited mobility makes it impossible to take the bus; taxis come with prohibitive costs; and loved ones have full-time jobs that render them unavailable to help. So who do they turn to? Fortunately, volunteer drivers can fill the gap. Volunteer Transportation is a program of Sound Generations, a non-profit organization working to help seniors remain safely independent and connected to their communities. Every week, there are a growing number of older adults in need of transportation but not enough volunteers to do it all. It is heartbreaking to know that for many, the only barrier to accessing medical care is just a ride. Help make a huge difference in the lives of seniors near you by becoming a volunteer driver. Volunteer: Take Your Compassion to the Road! Drive Seniors In NeedVolunteers needed to drive older adults to their medical appointments
One of the biggest barriers seniors face in accessing medical care is lack of transportation. Poor vision or medical conditions prevent them from driving, limited mobility makes it impossible to take the bus, taxis come with prohibitive costs, and loved ones have full-time jobs that render them unavailable to help. Yet, since 1975, Sound Generations Volunteer Transportation has served as a trustworthy resource for older adults throughout King County. With its force of kind and reliable volunteers, the program provides the missing link between seniors and their necessary medical care.
NOTE: Although this post says the opportunity is based in Seattle, volunteers are needed in communities throughout King County. Discover why rides change lives! Organization: Sound Generations Volunteers needed to drive older adults to their medical appointments

Volunteer: Provide Childcare on Monday evenings in RentonVision House is a Christian social service agency based near Seattle, Washington. Since 1990, Vision House has provided housing, support services and child care for homeless families with children. Volunteers will spend time with Vision House resident children - playing games, reading books, doing crafts. All activities will be planned in advance so volunteers will show up each week and have fun. These activities may seem simple, but without individuals to care for and spend time with the children, then the parents cannot attend crucial life skills training classes. Vision House is a Christian organization. We ask that, even if you do not share our beliefs, you respect them. While we do not have any mandatory spiritual activities for our residents, we do ask volunteers working in direct contact with residents to sign our statement of faith. Volunteers must also fill out all necessary paperwork and attend training/orientation with the volunteer coordinator and child advocate. CPR/First aid training is a plus. The minimum age for this opportunity is 16 years and older. Organization: Vision House Vision House is a Christian social service agency based near Seattle, Washington. Volunteer: City Year Seattle / King County is growing its Board!City Year believes in the power of young people.
We know that all students can succeed. But, many students growing up in low-income communities face adversity that affects their ability to come to school every day, ready to learn. City Year’s Seattle / King County site currently serves over 4600 students in 10 elementary and middle schools around South Seattle. What is the mission of City Year’s Site Board? The mission of a City Year site board is to serve as a highly-engaged and deeply-committed team of volunteer leaders who tap their collective wisdom, resources, and experiences to enable City Year to achieve impact, scale, and success in their community. What makes the City Year Seattle / King County Board an attractive opportunity? First and foremost, impact. You will have an opportunity to engage and make a difference in thousands of lives across multiple generations of leaders locally and nationally: Board, staff, AmeriCorps members, students, champions, and partners. Your leadership will be a driving force in helping students stay in school and on track to graduate college - and be career ready. Second, you will have access to a broad, local and national professional network through City Year’s corporate, civic, and private partners, 28 peer site boards, and the national board of trustees. Third, you’ll have the pride of serving with an organization with strong values and a program backed by research, community support, and results. You’ll also have a lot of fun along the way! What are the core roles of a City Year Site Board member? We’re looking for leaders who want to make a difference in our communities, and are working to build a Board that is as diverse as the communities we serve. It is important to clarify CYSKC’s site board is advisory in nature. That means although site boards play an important role in building the organization locally and nationally, they do not have formal legal authority or fiduciary responsibilities. We understand that City Year is one part of your life so we work to create individually sustainable engagement plans so members can easily balance professional and personal commitments. There are many ways you can impact City Year’s mission and success as a board member; however, here are three key ways we ask each board member to apply their expertise, leadership, and time: Personal Connection: Develop an understanding of the mission, vision, strategies, and impact of City Year, both nationally and locally. You will receive onboarding support and any materials or experiences you need to build and strengthen this bond. Engagement: Prepare and engage in site board meetings (every-other-month) to provide input on site strategy, plans, and challenges. Actively participate in key CYSKC events throughout the year. Advocacy & Fundraising: Prioritize City Year as one of you top three philanthropic investments. Be bold and proud in advocating for City Year within your personal and professional networks and with prospective champions and partners (staff provides all supporting coaching, messaging and materials).Learn more! Interested? Click the "respond" button and we will get in touch with you.

Volunteer: Donation Bin AmbassadorFor more than 60 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters has been making a difference in the lives of youth facing adversity throughout King and Pierce counties. Volunteer mentors have been the foundation of much of the work we do, yet we recognize that many talented and driven individuals aren’t able to make the ongoing commitment mentoring requires. The role of Donation Bin Ambassador requires less time and energy, but still contributes to a brighter future for our kids. To help fund mentoring programs, our donation center collects and resells clothing, shoes, and other household items. Each bin raises an average of $5500 per year, which goes to directly impacting the work we do and supporting local youth. As we grow to serve more kids, we need to add bins throughout King and Pierce counties. If you believe your workplace or community group would be willing to host a Big Brothers Big Sisters donation bin, we’d love to know! As a Donation Bin Ambassador, you would be responsible for promoting the program to your coworkers and community, as well as informing Big Brothers Big Sisters when the bin is full so we can schedule pick up. The time commitment is limited, but you can make a major impact!
