Join Dirt Corps in wrapping up our restoration work at Westcrest Park for the year! We'll be learning about planting season in the PNW, the different native plants we use at this site, and the power of mulch! We'll also be planting native shrubs, trees, and groundcovers, and tucking everything in with mulch to keep the soil and plants snug through the winter. We hope to see you there!

Please bring with you what you will need to be comfortable whilst spending a few hours working outside. Dress in clothed layers for the weather, and consider bringing additional dry, insulating, or waterproof layers. We encourage participants to wear long sleeves, long pants, and sturdy closed-toed shoes. Remember to bring water, sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, or any other accessories to protect yourself from the elements. Remember that blackberry thorns are sharp and can snag clothing, and that the terrain may be uneven and/or wet. We will be providing gloves and tools for all to use, as well as snacks, hot drinks, and water.

Reading support volunteers focus on filling critical gaps that students have in foundational reading skills. Each week, volunteers will work with the (same) student on important concepts in both reading literature and non-fiction texts, including decoding skills, fluency skills, and reading comprehension. The content used within this role is provided by the classroom teacher in collaboration with the English Language Development teacher.

Our goals

Students will have more confidence and concrete foundational skills in reading from which to build on. Within five months, students will progress in their fluency and comprehension skills in reading, as evidenced by a minimum of two levels of growth (higher than average mid-year growth) on their Reading Assessment. By end of the school year, students who receive this support throughout the year will progress in their fluency and comprehension skills in reading, as evidenced by a minimum of four levels of growth (higher than average annual growth) on their Spring Reading Assessment.

Volunteer for 90 or 120 minutes per shift (30 minutes per student)

Your regular duties may include:

Training

You will receive training and materials tailored to your student's needs to help you succeed in your tutoring role. Your supervisor will also provide ongoing training, modeling and coaching in reading and math programs. You will benefit from working with experienced mentors, educators, and school leaders. You will work with our incredible students, meet many multilingual families, and have opportunities to learn about diverse cultures represented in our school community.

As a Feeding Service Associate with the Red Cross, you’ll help nourish both body and spirit— whether by serving meals at a shelter or delivering food directly to neighborhoods impacted by disaster. Your presence can be a light in someone’s darkest moment.

Do you have the flexibility to deploy for two weeks to support communities impacted by disaster? The Red Cross is looking to train willing individuals 18 and older to fill a variety of roles during disaster relief operations. All training and travel expenses are fully covered by the Red Cross.

Volunteer: Disasters harm families. Can you help?

Every day, the American Red Cross sees the heartbreak of people trying to cope with more intense storms, heavier rainfall, higher temperatures, stronger hurricanes and more devastating wildfires.

 

As more people rely on the Red Cross for help, the need for compassionate volunteers has never been greater.

 

Volunteers help comfort and support people who are forced from their homes due to fires, storms and other emergencies, so they don’t have to face tough times alone. Join us and turn your compassion into action by becoming a volunteer today. We are actively recruiting for these critical volunteer roles:

 

Shelter Support Team: During large disasters, you can support the day-to-day activities within a shelter which may include working in reception, registration, feeding, dormitory, information or other areas within a shelter. Free online training will be provided. If the need arises, volunteers are asked to commit to multiple local shifts of 4-12 hours each. For those able to travel outside of their local area, a commitment of at least 14 consecutive days, working 8- or 12-hour shifts is required.

 

Disaster Health Services Team: During large disasters, you can use your professional skills as a licensed healthcare provider to deliver hands on care and education to shelter residents. Free online training will be provided and can count towards nursing continuing education units. If the need arises, volunteers are asked to commit to multiple local shifts of 4-12 hours each. For those able to travel outside of their local area, a commitment of at least 10-14 consecutive days, working 8- or 12-hour shifts is required. Qualified licenses include RN, LPN, LVN, EMT, Paramedic, MD, DO, PA, NP, APRN. Only RNs have full scope of practice.

 

Disaster Action Team: While big hurricanes and wildfires get the most news coverage, smaller disasters are no less devastating to the families affected. Most of the 60,000 emergencies that the Red Cross responds to each year are smaller disasters like home fires. As a Disaster Action Team volunteer, you can help comfort and support people in your community by meeting any immediate needs such as food, shelter, clothing or supplies and connecting them to long term recovery services. We supply all the training you need.

Shelter Support Team: During large disasters, you can support the day-to-day activities within a shelter which may include working in reception, registration, feeding, dormitory, information or other areas within a shelter. Free online training will be provided. If the need arises, volunteers are asked to commit to multiple local shifts of 4-12 hours each. For those able to travel outside of their local area, a commitment of at least 14 consecutive days, working 8- or 12-hour shifts is required.

 

Disaster Health Services Team: During large disasters, you can use your professional skills as a licensed healthcare provider to deliver hands on care and education to shelter residents. Free online training will be provided and can count towards nursing continuing education units. If the need arises, volunteers are asked to commit to multiple local shifts of 4-12 hours each. For those able to travel outside of their local area, a commitment of at least 10-14 consecutive days, working 8- or 12-hour shifts is required. Qualified licenses include RN, LPN, LVN, EMT, Paramedic, MD, DO, PA, NP, APRN. Only RNs have full scope of practice.

 

Disaster Action Team: While big hurricanes and wildfires get the most news coverage, smaller disasters are no less devastating to the families affected. Most of the 60,000 emergencies that the Red Cross responds to each year are smaller disasters like home fires. As a Disaster Action Team volunteer, you can help comfort and support people in your community by meeting any immediate needs such as food, shelter, clothing or supplies and connecting them to long term recovery services. We supply all the training you need.

Pawsitive Alliance, a volunteer driven tax-exempt nonprofit organization, is having an open call for Board Members. Founded in 2005, the mission of Pawsitive Alliance is to help end the euthanasia of adoptable dogs and cats in Washington by increasing adoptions, supporting spay and neuter programs, and improving pet retention. 


Pawsitive Alliance advances are mission through our three programs: 

Adoption program: #WhyNotMePets campaign, highlighting long-term homeless pets, and supporting adoption opportunities to help homeless pets finds homes 

Spay/Neuter: providing vouchers and financial and logistical support to increase surgeries and access to end pet overpopulation and suffering 

Pet retention: collecting and distributing pet food and supplies and offering pet ID tags and microchips to keep pets thriving with their caretakers 


Our programs and activities prioritize increasing services for pets, people, and places across Washington state with few resources. 


Pawsitive Alliance’s biggest strengths are marketing, organizing, fundraising, and collaborating.  We work with more than 50 human and animal-welfare partners each year. Since 2005, we have helped over 8,000 animals find homes, delivered over 170,000 pounds of donated pet food, and facilitated more than 11,000 spay and neuter surgeries.

RA students are not just athletes, but are also artists, activists, engineers, and up-and-coming philosophers. Their passions are a way that we engage in a deeper conversation with them and their supporters. So no, you don’t have to love sports! RA mentors are volunteers with diverse backgrounds, skill sets, and interests.

 

Volunteer mentors meet with their mentee once a week at the mentee’s school. After check-ins, mentors share a report with their mentee’s family, teachers, and coaches. RA mentors are bridge builders, strengthening relationships beyond their one-on-one connection to the student by uniting the student’s entire Core Community of supporters. We call this approach ONE Team Mentoring!


Mentors typically spend 1 hour per week between meeting with the student, and communicating with their parents, teachers, etc. We ask mentors to commit for at least one full school year.

Squad Leaders are tasked with building relationships with students in their squad(s) as well as their students’ families, teachers, and others in the community. 

Responsibilities include coordinating logistics and prepping for weekly hour-long Squad Meet-Ups. These Squad Meet-Ups may include topical discussions, study sessions, or other activities to strengthen relationships and build towards each student’s next step plan after high school. Collaboration is a key element to the program’s success; Squad Leaders will have hour-long weekly formal opportunities to connect with other Squad Leaders and RA’s High School Program Manager to share highlights, challenges, and best practices.

Hopelink is looking for volunteer career advisers for the English for Work program!

Fall quarter is already underway, so we are looking for advisers for our winter and spring quarters. The next New Adviser Onboarding meetings will be held in January and April 2026.

About English for Work and the Adviser Role

English for Work is a quarter-long English language program, designed for immigrants and refugees who are planning to get a job (or a better job) or enroll in college/job training in the next six months or so. In the class, students improve English listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills while learning about U.S. work culture, career goal setting, resume writing, and interview preparation.

Each adviser is assigned 2-3 students for the quarter. Advisers work one-on-one with their assigned students, supporting them in setting short-term and long-term career goals, resume writing, English practice, applying for jobs, and preparing for job interviews. Advisers primarily meet with students virtually, with occasional in-person opportunities at local libraries or other local public meeting spaces if student transportation allows.

This is a great role for working folks because the meeting schedules can be flexible. It’s also great for recently retired folks who are looking for ways to give back to the community and share their industry expertise!

We provide training and support to volunteers throughout the quarter.

Adviser Requirements:

Must be enthusiastic about connecting with students virtually and comfortable using technology (Zoom is the most common mode for advising meetings, accessible to those with busy schedules and transportation barriers). Have at least 3 years of U.S. work experience with some knowledge about the job market and the job search process. Excellent interpersonal skills with strong ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and respectfully with immigrants and refugees who are developing their English language skills. Commitment to anti-racism, being equitable and inclusive to all, and to practicing cultural humility. Available to meet with their advisees at least 3-6 times during the quarter. Able to commit to advising for at least two quarters (about six months).
