Caller: A volunteer is needed to help make calls to our Meals on Wheels participants each week to place their meal orders for their upcoming delivery. This opportunity is currently on Monday mornings from 8:30am - 11am, but will be changing to take place on Thursday mornings from 8:30am - 11am in the future.

Qualifications: Good communication and people skills, reliable, good cheer, and a commitment to the well-being of homebound elders. This is an on-going volunteer commitment.

Any profits derived from Magpie Thrift are funneled directly back into Everly, our new nonprofit making sustainable living more accessible to our city through education, community service, and resource redistribution. This unique relationship allows us to help keep valuable items out of the landfill while investing customer funds back into caring for their community!

Join Dirt Corps in wrapping up our restoration work at Westcrest Park for the year! We'll be learning about planting season in the PNW, the different native plants we use at this site, and the power of mulch! We'll also be planting native shrubs, trees, and groundcovers, and tucking everything in with mulch to keep the soil and plants snug through the winter. We hope to see you there!

Please bring with you what you will need to be comfortable whilst spending a few hours working outside. Dress in clothed layers for the weather, and consider bringing additional dry, insulating, or waterproof layers. We encourage participants to wear long sleeves, long pants, and sturdy closed-toed shoes. A Volunteer is needed to deliver meals in Tukwila on Thursday mornings. Delivery drivers pick up meals around 9am and are typically done with their route in 2 hours. Training is provided and mileage is reimbursable.

Qualifications: Communication skills, flexibility, attention to detail, accuracy, people skills, good cheer, and a commitment to the well-being of homebound elders. This is an on-going volunteer commitment.

Requirements: Complete an application, consent to a background check, be able to lift 15lbs, be at least 18 years of age, and have a Washington state driver's license and auto insurance.

Deliver pre-made birthday parties and cakes to homeless children in King, Pierce, and Snohomish Counties.

Birthday Dreams brings hope and joy to homeless children with the gift of a birthday party. All children, regardless of their circumstances, deserve to be celebrated on their special day. Birthday Dreams, with the help of an army of volunteers and donors, has helped over 15,000 homeless children celebrate their birthdays.

Birthday Dreams is looking for a bookkeeper who knows QuickBooks. The position will require around 10 hours per week, depending on the time of year and number of donations.

Sock It to Homlessness 2025

WHO WE ARE  

Operation Nightwatch (Nightwatch) reduces the impact of poverty and homelessness in keeping with Jesus’ teaching to love our neighbors. Nightwatch provides food, shelter, housing and hope to Seattle’s most vulnerable population. Join us for an evening of sharing, dining, coffee and conversation with our board, community, staff and friends 

THE EVENT  

Sock It to Homelessness is an in-person event on December 7th, 2025. Socks are critical to the comfort and well-being of homeless people. Imagine what it must be like to have the same pair of nasty, wet socks on your feet, 24-hours a day. Not good. Socks won’t solve our community’s homeless crisis. But socks can keep homeless people hopeful, knowing there are neighbors like you, who care.

Opportunities/Shifts 

Greeters: greet guests at the door, make sure they sign in, show where to drop socks, provide in-kind receipt if requested, direct to snacks, inform about tours.

Need: 2 people

Sock Counter: Carefully count socks and keep a tally to share at the end of the event.

Need: 4

Sock Processors: remove any packaging, fold, place into crates

Need: 12-15 people

Sock Runners: help donors unload from vehicles as needed, carry socks from drop off to counting zone, carry socks from counting to crating zone, carry crates into sock room

Donate 1-2 hours every week to help a student get closer to meeting academic goals, gain confidence, and feel more excited to come to school. By tutoring at Rising Star, you help strengthen academic supports for elementary-grade students in public schools.

Rising Star Elementary is located on Beacon Hill and serves nearly 350 students. Join our vibrant, multicultural community as a volunteer! 

At Seattle Public Schools, we celebrate diversity, nurture cultural and ethnic pride in our students, and honor home languages. Rising Star Elementary is a neighborhood school with a rich and diverse population of students:
- 65% of our students identify as Black, Asian/Pacific Islander, and Latinx. 
- 40% of students are English Language Learners.

Academic Support in Reading

Reading support volunteers focus on filling critical gaps that students have in foundational reading skills. Each week, volunteers will work with the (same) student on important concepts in both reading literature and non-fiction texts, including decoding skills, fluency skills, and reading comprehension. The content used within this role is provided by the classroom teacher in collaboration with the English Language Development teacher.

Angeline’s is an adult women’s day center, providing a respite, hygiene center and serving meals to about 200 + women every day.

Tasks may include helping prepare meals, decorating tasty salads, serving meals, meal clean up, organizing donations and taking on various cleaning tasks, all while getting to engaging the women  

The volunteer shifts are Breakfast: 7:30-10am, Lunch: 11:30am-1:30pm, Dinner: 3:30-5pm Monday through Saturday. You choose your shift and how often you want to volunteer.

Volunteers must be 18 years and older and pass a Washington State Patrol background check. 

When a large-scale disaster impacts a community, multiple agencies and resources are needed to walk alongside them to provide response and recovery support. The Shelter Resident Transition Service Associate assists shelter residents and disaster victims create long term personal plans to overcome obstacles and transition into a stable housing solution. They play an important role in minimizing disaster caused displacement and aid in long term recovery.

Labor of Love is Open Arms' annual event where we raise critical funds and awareness for reproductive justice and birth equity. We invite volunteers to join us on Thursday, April 23, 2026, and help us create a warm, welcoming event. 

Create holiday memories that last a lifetime at Winterfest! Open Arms invites to help us create warm, welcoming event for families. Together, we will bring the holiday cheer, distribute diapers, connect families to resources, and introduce kids to Santa.

The "Wishes for Dishes" Lead Volunteer would oversee our dish rescue program which redirects dishes headed for the landfill into the hands of local refugee families at zero cost to them. Duties include: Recruit volunteers, or go yourself, to select dishes from what Goodwill is about to throw away - Tuesday mornings 8AM - as dictated by demand. Bring back to our storage unit in Issaquah, unload, sort. Pack dish kits as needed for families who have requested them. Schedule "shopping" trips when inventory dips.

Join us for a Forest Steward led planting event in Pioneer Park! Volunteers have been working hard removing ivy from the under story of the park. Now there is plenty of open space to repopulate with native plants. This will help create a healthier ecosystem with more biodiversity.

Get your hands in the dirt, work alongside neighbors and friends, and eat snacks! No experience necessary. All ages welcome; gloves and tools are provided.

However, the forest floor of much of this park is covered in non-native common ivy. Help us remove ivy to create healthier ecosystems and more space for native plants to thrive.  

Get your hands in the dirt, work alongside neighbors and friends, and eat snacks! No experience necessary. All ages welcome; gloves and tools are provided.

Volunteers help comfort and support people who are forced from their homes due to fires, storms and other emergencies, so they don’t have to face tough times alone. Join us and turn your compassion into action by becoming a volunteer today. We are actively recruiting for these critical volunteer roles:

Shelter Support Team: During large disasters, you can support the day-to-day activities within a shelter which may include working in reception, registration, feeding, dormitory, information or other areas within a shelter. Free online training will be provided. If the need arises, volunteers are asked to commit to multiple local shifts of 4-12 hours each. For those able to travel outside of their local area, a commitment of at least 14 consecutive days, working 8- or 12-hour shifts is required.

Disaster Health Services Team: During large disasters, you can use your professional skills as a licensed healthcare provider to deliver hands on care and education to shelter residents. Free online training will be provided and can count towards nursing continuing education units. If the need arises, volunteers are asked to commit to multiple local shifts of 4-12 hours each. For those able to travel outside of their local area, a commitment of at least 10-14 consecutive days, working 8- or 12-hour shifts is required. Qualified licenses include RN, LPN, LVN, EMT, Paramedic, MD, DO, PA, NP, APRN. Only RNs have full scope of practice.

Disaster Action Team: While big hurricanes and wildfires get the most news coverage, smaller disasters are no less devastating to the families affected. Most of the 60,000 emergencies that the Red Cross responds to each year are smaller disasters like home fires. As a Disaster Action Team volunteer, you can help comfort and support people in your community by meeting any immediate needs such as food, shelter, clothing or supplies and connecting them to long term recovery services. We supply all the training you need.

Help us power up! We are looking for volunteers to help us with our tool maintenance. We have both weekly and monthly volunteer opportunities to help us keep up with routine maintenance, fix damaged tools, and make more tools available to our community.

Have a free weekend? Help us with our recycling, repair, swap and workshop events! We are looking for volunteers to help with traffic direction, set up and tear down, checking in participants, and more. Our events are normally on Saturdays and a great way to get to know the community.

Learn about tools and connect with our community! We are looking for volunteers to help with checkouts during our open hours and expand to more operating hours. No experience needed, we will train you on how to help with checkouts, prepare for reservations, and advise patrons on their projects.

Every Thursday morning we need volunteers to transport our orders from KidVantage in Issaquah to our storage unit (also in Issaquah) where the items are sorted in prepartion for delivery to the families' homes.   A larger vehicle is a plus but we can fit a lot even into a sedan! 

Deliver essential needs to children in need - diapers, car seats, clothing, etc.   Pick up your route's orders in Issaquah and deliver to low-income refugee and immigrant families in either south King County, Seattle or the north end.   Orders are ready Thursday mid-day and can be delivered anytime between then and Sunday night, even Monday if needed.  Sign up for the weekends of your choice.

The Furniture Repair Bank rescues worn, torn, and broken furniture from the landfill, restores its value, and provides it to people in need. Learn some new skills or utilize ones you already have while reducing waste and supporting your community. 

Commitment is flexible and volunteers are welcome to join us for a couple of hours or an entire day.

Pawsitive Alliance advances are mission through our three programs: 

Adoption program: #WhyNotMePets campaign, highlighting long-term homeless pets, and supporting adoption opportunities to help homeless pets finds homes 

Spay/Neuter: providing vouchers and financial and logistical support to increase surgeries and access to end pet overpopulation and suffering 

Pet retention: collecting and distributing pet food and supplies and offering pet ID tags and microchips to keep pets thriving with their caretakers 

Our programs and activities prioritize increasing services for pets, people, and places across Washington state with few resources. 

Pawsitive Alliance’s biggest strengths are marketing, organizing, fundraising, and collaborating.  We work with more than 50 human and animal-welfare partners each year. Since 2005, we have helped over 8,000 animals find homes, delivered over 170,000 pounds of donated pet food, and facilitated more than 11,000 spay and neuter surgeries.

Volunteers help to ensure this shared site stays maintained and safe for gardeners to continue grow and nature to thrive.

Do you have weekly or bi-weekly availability to help in the garden? We need you! Consistent, returning volunteers are essential to the health of our garden. And best of all, no prior skills are required! We will train and develop you over time so you can work on increasingly more complex tasks like weeding our food forest, controlling pests and diseases, assisting with minor construction projects, managing our mason bees, or whatever else catches your interest and will enhance our community space. As the Volunteer Site Coordinator, you’ll lead and support our dedicated team of volunteers to ensure meals reach those who need them. You’ll coordinate schedules, make sure delivery drivers head out with the right bags, and assist with key office tasks that help keep Meals on Wheels running smoothly.

This role is based at the Meals on Wheels office inside the Federal Way Community Center on Thursdays from 8–11 a.m., with some additional coordinator duties that can be done remotely. We’re looking for someone who can commit to the role long term and enjoys being part of a caring, mission-driven team.

Requirements: Complete the Meals on Wheels Volunteer Application, consent to a Washington State Patrol background check, the ability to lift 15 pounds, and be age 21 or more.

Disaster Action Teams provide 24-hour emergency response to local disasters, particularly house fires, ensuring that those affected have access to resources for basic necessities such as food, shelter and clothing.

Our DAT team is responsible for:

Providing timely in-person response to disasters and assisting those affected. Responding to disaster scenes as assigned by Team Leader within two hours. Meet the needs of those affected by disasters such as the need for shelter and food by providing Red Cross Services.

Provide referrals to other agencies.

Communicate to Team Leader about availability and readiness on a regular basis.

Every day we hear about the consequences of war and the suffering of the victims of armed conflict. Join in the effort to raise awareness about the rules of war. The International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Youth Action Campaign (YAC)- Regional Coordinator manages the YAC program at a regional level. The YAC program informs youth ages 13-24 about IHL and encourages youth to build a peer-to-peer awareness campaign on an IHL topic.

Volunteer Responsibilities include:

A passion for working with youth and an interest in IHL.

Participate in the monthly call during the implementation of the program.

Recruit teams of youth IHL advocates from your region to participate in the program.

Implement the IHL training for youth teams and help them to design their campaigns on an IHL topic.

Role Overview 

Rainier Athletes' (RA) mission is to affirm our youth’s sense of purpose and belonging by intentionally connecting their core community of teachers, coaches, families, and mentors. Once selected, each student is paired with a dedicated one-on-one mentor in elementary and middle school and a Squad Leader in high school. Each student is also sponsored to participate in sports/extra-curricular activities year-round throughout their duration with Rainer Athletes. Students begin their RA journey in 4th grade and continue through high school graduation and beyond.  

To sustain our impact with the growing number of Rainier Athletes high school students and families, we are seeking enthusiastic, dedicated individuals to serve as Squad Leaders for small groups of high school students. Squads consist of four or five students of similar ages. Squad Leaders are tasked with building relationships with students in their squad(s) as well as their students’ families, teachers, and others in the community. 

Responsibilities include coordinating logistics and prepping for weekly hour-long Squad Meet-Ups. These Squad Meet-Ups may include topical discussions, study sessions, or other activities to strengthen relationships and build towards each student’s next step plan after high school. Collaboration is a key element to the program’s success; Squad Leaders will have hour-long weekly formal opportunities to connect with other Squad Leaders and RA’s High School Program Manager to share highlights, challenges, and best practices.

About English for Work and the Adviser Role

English for Work is a quarter-long English language program, designed for immigrants and refugees who are planning to get a job (or a better job) or enroll in college/job training in the next six months or so. In the class, students improve English listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills while learning about U.S. work culture, career goal setting, resume writing, and interview preparation.

Each adviser is assigned 2-3 students for the quarter. Advisers work one-on-one with their assigned students, supporting them in setting short-term and long-term career goals, resume writing, English practice, applying for jobs, and preparing for job interviews. Advisers primarily meet with students virtually, with occasional in-person opportunities at local libraries or other local public meeting spaces if student transportation allows.

This is a great role for working folks because the meeting schedules can be flexible. It’s also great for recently retired folks who are looking for ways to give back to the community and share their industry expertise!

We provide training and support to volunteers throughout the quarter.
