Opportunities From: United Way of King County

Volunteer: Volunteer for White Center Food Bank

Seattle Food Committee works with 27 food banks and pantries within the City of Seattle. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are working together to support our community and continue our work in the struggle against hunger.

Interested in food justice? Volunteers know what goes on behind the scenes at the White Center Food Bank, and are critical to ensuring that our community is able to access the food they need. We are currently seeking volunteers for a variety of roles, and our need is high.

Grocery Rescue: Rescue food from grocery stores to provide diverse food options for customers as they shop at the food bank. Hours are Monday through Friday 9-11:30am Arms of Steel Team (Warehouse Support): Volunteers who want to be more active and build some muscle can help us keep our warehouse organized, and assist with large donations of bulk items (either receiving or going out!). Shifts available Monday 12-4pm, Tuesday 10am-3pm (highest need!), or Weds-Friday 10am-2pm. Grocery Store Clerks: Come for a regular shift and get to know our regular customers! Volunteers will welcome and chat with customers face to face as they shop for groceries, help customers find what they’re looking for, and will ensure our grocery store is well stocked throughout the day. Shifts available Mondays 12-4 (highest need!), or Weds-Friday 10am-2pm On Call Rockstars: Volunteers with wacky schedules needed! Have weekday availability that’s changing every week, but still want to volunteer? Join our pool of substitutes that are “on call” when extra help is needed in the food bank. We may know availability to help out a week or two in advance, but we also may call you as soon as the day of support that’s needed.Event Outreach: Table at local events on weekends or weeknights to do outreach or support food bank sponsored events as an event support volunteer. Volunteers in these roles tend to love talking with strangers about the food bank or love the logistics that go into organizing a community event. This team helps the food bank expand our outreach efforts to a wider community, ensuring more people know about us to seek food resources or to donate or volunteer their time.

As an essential service, food banks have been open the entire pandemic and greatly need your support as National Guard support on site ends in July 2021.

Thank you for your interest in helping our community! We hope to hear from you!
