Volunteer: Board of Directors- Secretary

Empowering Strides is seeking a volunteer to join our Board of Directors as Secretary. Empowering Strides’ mission is to empower children with emotional, behavioral and/or cognitive challenges through therapeutic horsemanship to improve social/emotional interaction and helping to build a deeper sense of self awareness. While riding and learning to care for the program horses, we instill confidence, responsibility, and self-worth in our students. We create a positive and impactful setting using animals that enriches each rider’s life.

Board of Directors Responsibilities

Legal and Fiduciary Responsibility: Ensure the organization adheres to legal and ethical standards. Act in the best interest of the organization.

Strategic Oversight: Approve the organization’s strategic plan, monitor progress, and ensure its implementation.

Fundraising and Resource Development: Support and actively participate in fundraising efforts. Cultivate relationships with potential donors, sponsors, and partners.

Advocacy: Promote the organization's mission and goals in the community and to relevant stakeholders.

Evaluation: Regularly evaluate the organization's performance, programs, and financial health.

Secretary Responsibilities

Ensure the accurate documentation of all board meetings through minutes and records.

Maintain important documents and correspondence for legal and regulatory purposes.

Ensure proper board meeting notices are given in compliance with bylaws.

Coordinate with the President to set the agenda for meetings.

Requirements:

Excellent oral and written communication.

Knowledge of Google Drive to store meeting minutes and documents. 

Attend board meetings in Snohomish, WA. 

Experience with horses is preferred.

Experience with nonprofits is preferred

Volunteer: Volunteer with Horses!

Volunteers are an essential part of the Empowering Strides team. Volunteers are utilized in every lesson to maintain the utmost safety of each horse and rider. Volunteers support riders by helping them to groom and tack their horses, to mount and dismount, and to learn new things and complete tasks during a lesson.

Empowering Strides Volunteer Qualifications

Volunteers must be at least 14 years old. (12 with a parent)Be able to lift up to 20 lbsBe able to walk and jog on uneven ground during a one-hour lessonEnjoy working with kidsHave good communication skillsBe open to constructive feedbackBe willing to learn and follow proceduresDress in appropriate barn attire*Horse knowledge and experience is extremely helpful but not necessary.

Empowering Strides is open to working with teenagers that need to fulfill volunteer hours for school, senior projects, 4H or extra curricular activities! Our instructor has mentored high school students who were completing horse related senior projects and is happy to do so again.

*Empowering Strides is willing to work with people who would like to volunteer but do not have horse handling experience. Please be honest about your level of horse experience as this can be a safety issue for yourself and our students.
