CAIR-WA is a 501c3 non-profit Muslim civil rights organization funded almost fully by local individuals who live in the state of Washington, and their employers' matching funds. The Donor Relations Volunteer helps maximize fulfillment of pledges by local donors and ensure matching of their donation by their employers.

As an Executive Assistant intern at CAIR-WA, you will play a valuable role in making our office run efficiently, looking professional, and assisting our staff and interns to maximize their ability to serve our communities.

While working at CAIR-WA, the Event Planning Intern will play a valuable role in planning and managing all logistical aspects of event planning for our annual awards banquet to be held in June 2016 and for full-day youth events in 2016 that will include meetings with executives, workshops on resume optimization, interview role-play/practice, business communication, for 30 MYLP students (www.cairseattle.org/MYLP)

Tasks include, but are not limited to: setting numerous appointments with executives via e-mail and phone, maintaining a detailed pre-event registration system, compiling detailed event attendee information, track planning committee members' work to ensure completion, track inventory of all supplies needed for events, vetting and confirming experts to prepare students in these areas; preparing and printing of all event literature; and preparing and disseminating all event marketing.

Our Civil Rights Department handles hundreds of cases each year that range from prejudiced gestures to full blown discrimination against Muslim clients as well as non-Muslims who have been perceived to be Muslim. Casework includes conducting intake interviews, ongoing communication with clients and offending parties, writing advocacy letters, attorney referrals, researching relevant legislation, and database entry. The department also presents "Know-Your-Rights" trainings for local Muslims.

While working with CAIR-WA, the Civil Rights Intern will gain interviewing, investigative, and writing skills from work with diverse clientele to document civil rights abuses. S/he will oversee civil rights cases, as well as assist in documenting and reporting data and educating the community about CAIR's work. In addition, s/he will have access to a number of community events and trainings (depending on scheduling) pertaining to broader civil rights work in Washington State. S/he may be asked to perform other tasks as needed.

Photograph CAIR-WA events across the Puget Sound and upload to online albums. Write short event reports to be published online. Record and produce short professional videos ranging from 30-second public service ads to 5 minute short documentaries and other video items to depicting American Muslims? lives and contributions. Projects include compelling videos of CAIR-WA clients, American Muslim military personnel, veterans, nurses, as well as ?know your rights? videos. Volunteers will use their own equipment. Train speakers through simulated media interviews on message discipline, on-camera interview techniques, etc., given CAIR-WA?s messaging guidelines.
