New Futures Elementary Program:  The Elementary Program provides children a safe supportive environment both after school and in the summer. Our seven-week intensive summer program focuses on sports, STEM subjects, reading, art, field trips and fun! We start the day with one hour of open reading to further our children’s reading skills. 

 

POSITION SUMMARY:  The Reading Buddy will assist the Elementary Program Coordinator during open reading time.  Reading Buddies will work with grades 1-6 in both group and individual settings. The education center offers a high school re-entry program, a GED programs supportive of teen parents and a summer writers’ workshop. Sites located in West Seattle and White Center.

 

POSITION SUMMARY: The Education Center Tutor’s main objective is to provide direct service through individual or group tutoring in one or more academic subject. The Education Center Tutor will work with staff to understand each students’ individual learning goals and how their skills best match program need.  The tutor will participate in all activities during program such as group games in order to build community and administer to social and emotional well being.  Tutors will also act as mentors and positive role models for students during the program. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Instruction:

 

Tutor students individually or in small groups to reinforce presented learning material Present subject matter to students with the guidance of staff using methods such as lectures, discussions, worksheets, group work or supervised role-playing methods Observe students’ performance, and record relevant data to assess progress Provide extra assistance to students with special needs, such as non-English speaking students and students with Individual Education Plan

 

Supervision:

Model and reinforce expectations for community norms and the use and care of materials Supervise or organize game and other recreational activities to promote physical, mental and social development Assist when appropriate in personal development programs or behavior modification programs

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Title:      New Futures Programs After-School Tutor 

Supervisor:  Program Coordinator, Grades K-6 

 

POSITION SUMMARY:  The After-School Tutor will assist the New Futures Program Coordinator in administering program activities, helping students individually with homework, building students’ academic skills, setting up and breaking down the classroom, and possibly going on field trips with the group.  Tutors will also act as mentors and positive role models for students during the program.  

 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

Assist Program Coordinator with program activities  Engage and build relationships with elementary school students  Tutor elementary school students during after-school homework help time  Collaborate with Program Coordinator to develop activities for students  Assist with program set up, preparation of snack, group management, and break down  Assist with clean up, dishes, and other program components  Perform related work as assigned
