Volunteer: Join the Board of Summer Search, a national youth development organizationMission: Our mission is to help students from low-income backgrounds transform what they believe is possible for themselves and develop the skills they need to become college-educated leaders who give back to their families and communities. Results and Impact: Our program works. It gets kids to and through college – with remarkable success rates that beat out even the best local high schools – and reaches beyond academics to help our students see their own potential to succeed in challenging situations and create a ripple effect of lasting, positive change in their communities and in the world. In 2016, 100% of our students graduated high school and 71% of our college students from class of 2010 had completed their Bachelors degree compared with 21% of their peers. Board Candidate Qualifications: Passionate about social justice and educational equity for low income students, especially students of color Willing to talk about Summer Search with your friends and community to promote our mission and students Willing and able to make a personally meaningful gift and invite others to give to the organization Possess curiosity about others and a willingness to collaborate with other board members and staff Possess a desire to continuously learn about equity, deconstructing institutional racism and non-profit organizationsBoard Member Role in Achieving our Vision Fundraising: Ensure adequate resources to fulfill our mission and strategic goals. This includes making a personally significant gift at the Sponsor-a-Student level ($7,500) to Summer Search annually, filling a table at the annual luncheon and connecting Summer Search to new individuals, foundations and corporations. Community Representation/Promotion: Represent and promote Summer Search to the greater Seattle community, including at Summer Search events (attend at least one of two annual program events). Planning and Leadership: Review and approve Summer Search Seattle’s annual budget, strategic and operational plans.
