School Locations: Remote (potentially September-December)

Work Hours: Typical hours are Monday-Thursday between 2:30 – 5:30pm (approx. 2 hours per day)

 

ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND:

After-School All-Stars (ASAS) is one of the leading national after-school program providers in the country. With a special focus on the middle school age group, our comprehensive school-based programs include Academic Readiness, Career Exploration, STEM, Wellness, and the Arts to help build the knowledge and skills children need to succeed, both in school and in life. Founded by Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1992, ASAS provides free, daily after-school programs to more than 90,000 youth in over 450 school sites in 19 chapters across the U.S. With the award of a national expansion grant, ASAS launched programs in the Puget Sound region during Fall 2016 and will be heading into our fifth program year. ASAS Puget Sound is serving approximately 600 students at three public school sites in Kent, Skyway/Renton and Tukwila.

 

WHAT WE NEED:

ASAS is currently seeking passionate and talented people to support the daily needs of our programs.  Reporting to the Site Coordinator, Program Assistants are responsible for helping to manage virtual Zoom classrooms, ensuring the safety of students, and supporting the daily operation and implementation of each program. Programs you may support include, but are not limited to:

Cooking & Nutrition Outdoor Education Digital Music Production Dance Creative Arts Academic Support Sports & Fitness STEM Social Emotional Learning

 

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

The Program Assistant should embody ASAS’s core values: accountable, collaborative, transparent, proactive, and entrepreneurial and will demonstrate the ability to lead students to accomplish established objectives.

Curriculum:

Help to support the implementation of virtual activities to promote student exploration and learning Model and promote the mission and values of After-School All-Stars through appropriate appearance, words, and actions Facilitate virtual small breakout group tutoring sessions to support students in completing their assignments

Youth Supervision:

Under guidance of the Site Coordinator, Program Assistants will provide direct supervision to students virtually and helping to manage the chat feature in Zoom virtual programs Using the ASAS approach of positive youth discipline to help students take ownership of their actions and grow from consequences of such actions Maintain good order and discipline in the virtual environment Ensure the school rules and policies are reflected in daily practice

Facilitation:

Work in conjunction with the Site Coordinator and fellow Program Leaders to ensure that virtual program activities are engaging, fun and relevant to youth, as well as organized and well thought-out Maintain professional and positive relationships with school staff, partners, students, and parents Create and manage a caring, supportive, purposeful, and stimulating virtual environment

Data Management:

Take and collect attendance regularly at the start of every class Maintain accurate attendance data and reports  Submit required data on time

This role may focus more on direct service (likely virtual), program support, or a hybrid of the two depending on the individual’s experience and skill set.

 

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
The successful candidate will have a familiarity with and passion for working with underserved youth, in addition to the following:

Some college preferred (completed or in progress) Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with school district staff, ASAS program staff, parents, and community leaders Familiarity and experience with diverse populations and cultural competencies strongly desired Familiarity with basic computer software programs; familiarity with Zoom is a plus Comfortable being on camera Reliable internet, computer, and webcam strongly encouraged

After School All-Stars is one of the leading national after-school program providers in the country.  Our comprehensive school-based programs combine academics, enrichment, and health and wellness activities to help students build the knowledge and skills they need to succeed, both in school and in life. Founded by Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1992, ASAS is building a national model for after-school program delivery through our 19 chapters, all of which serve nearly 90,000 youth in major urban localities. BOARD OF DIRECTORS

After-School All-Stars Puget Sound’s Advisory Board is a body that works closely with the Executive Director to facilitate and guide the execution of our mission. We are primarily composed of corporate employees from the finance, hospitality, tech, real estate and food and beverage industries. Examples of companies represented include EY, Microsoft, Amazon, Starbucks, Boeing, New York Life, Marriott International, and Mondelez.  We strongly value diversity of thought, profession, age, race/ethnicity, gender identity, ability and sexual orientation.

To align with the growth and reach of our programs, ASAS Puget Sound is currently seeking responsible and energetic individuals who are passionate about closing the achievement and opportunity gaps via transformative after-school programming.  We are looking for individuals who can bring their expertise and fresh ideas to our organization. Ideal candidates will:

Be motivated to work on behalf of our youth Preferably have expertise in one of the following areas: marketing, PR, non-profit law, education and technology Be well-connected in the community and knowledgeable about local middle schools or South King County school districts Be experienced in and enthusiastic about fundraising Attend quarterly board meetings (typically in Seattle, Renton or Issaquah) Help cultivate supporters for an annual fundraiser event Make a personal annual financial contribution each fiscal year that is meaningful and significant, as part of the $5,000 “give and get” commitment (board dues) Develop an individual fundraising plan to meet the $5,000 “give and get target” or more Recruit and propose potential candidates who could further ASAS Puget Sound’s work for nomination to the Advisory Board Be an active advocate and ambassador for the organization Be committed to fostering a safe and inclusive space to help us better serve our mission Be interested in joining the board for a renewable three-year term

 

APPLICATION PROCESS

Interested individuals should click "Respond" for more information.  Top board candidates will be invited to interview with the Board Chair and Executive Director, meet with and be interviewed by youth participants, and attend an initial board meeting. Onboarding of new board members is ongoing throughout the year.

ASAS Puget Sound welcomes energetic volunteers to engage with the 6th, 7th and 8th grade students in our programs at Showalter Middle School in Tukwila (within Tukwila School District). In addition to an hour of academic tutoring, we also offer a second hour of enrichment and physical activity programs. Each session throughout the school year, students enroll in the second-hour program(s) of their choice. The specific programs we offer depend on student interest/demand, partnership resources, and skill sets of our program instructors. Popular recurring offerings include career exploration, sports, cooking, photography, art and DJ/music production. Volunteers are welcome during the following times:

MONDAYS-THURSDAYS:

2:30 – 2:45 PM: Student sign-in/meal time

2:45 – 3:45 PM: Academic Hour

3:45 – 4:45 PM: Enrichment Hour

 

Volunteers can provide tutoring support during our academic hour and/or engage with students in our sports, cooking, and other programs during our enrichment hour. ASAS Puget Sound can also schedule the following special activities:

Career Panelist: Help students make connections between educational choices and career paths by sharing your personal academic and professional tracks, skill set(s) and tips for success. WonderKit Team Leader: Each volunteer is paired up with a group of students to lead STEM-based WonderKit activities.

All volunteers must:

Read and sign the ASAS Volunteer Information & Conduct Policy Form; and Complete the Volunteers in Public Schools application and background check, per the requirements of Tukwila School District.

ASAS Puget Sound welcomes energetic volunteers to engage with the 6th – 8th grade students in our programs at Dimmitt Middle School in Bryn Mawr-Skyway (within Renton School District). Each session throughout the school year, students enroll in the enrichment program of their choice. We’re currently offering four different programs, which include: Learning Lab (homework help), DJ/Music Production (STEM/STEAM), Sports, and Dance. Volunteers may select their program of choice to support during the days/times listed below:

TUES/THURS:

2:40 – 3:00 PM: Student sign-in

3:00 – 4:00 PM: Academic & Enrichment Programs

 

All volunteers must:

Read and sign the ASAS Volunteer Information & Conduct Policy Form; and Complete the Volunteers in Public Schools application and background check, per the requirements of Renton School District.
