BIDEWW AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM SUMMARY

After several parents engaged us to create a program that will support West African kids with their academic, life and social skills needs, in February of 2022, WAWAC finally created what we call our "BIDEWW" (STAR) After School Program. WAWAC's BIDEWW/star after-school program and homework club seeks to create a culturally appropriate fun and new learning environment that fosters social skills, and provides learning opportunities for our kids through exciting semi-structured activities such as science experiments, cooking classes, arts projects, singing, dancing, music, cinematography, storytelling and more at a culturally appropriate setting for free of charge.

Since the kids spend a lot of time at school where they learn in a structured and formal environment, the BIDEWW After School program is done in a free environment where they still learn fun stuff that they create themselves. Additional recreational activities are also held to encourage them to stay active, healthy, and connected with one another.

This is also a platform for West African kids to interact, learn from each other and build their own community. It is available to school-aged children 5 to 17 years old in Snohomish and King Counties twice a week. Through this platform, the kids of our community explore their artistic instincts through collaborative art projects. It holds significant value for our kids because it inspires them to be creatively driven at an early age. An opportunity that they don't ordinarily receive from their parents, as many West African parents deem art a "waste of time," grossly depriving kids of the possibility to explore their creativity. We pride ourselves on opening our program to a wide range of African kids tailored to their unique needs, identity, and values.

After successfully implementing the pilot Bideww After School program in Snohomish County in September 2022, WAWAC partnered with School’s Out Washington to start a similar program in King County.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The WAWAC Bideww After School Program Assistant assists the Program Director (PD) in implementing programs outside of school hours for West African children in Washington. His/her role includes:
Assisting PD with Planning, preparing, and implementing an approved curriculum that includes language studies, math, art, social/life skills, and African culture and realities.
Aiding PD with snack time/bathroom
Assisting PD to keep students' mannerisms on point.
Assisting PD with keeping track of newly enrolled students.
Oblige PD with keeping track of all necessary documents relating to the program such as incident reports, compliance forms, transportation request forms, etc.
Implementing daily lesson plans and activities that focus on developing children’s social, life and motor skills.
Study each weekly curriculum given by PD for preparedness.
Follow PD’s schedule provided and any direction given.
Coordinating with PD and assisting with UW student volunteers.
Attending meetings and capacity building training organized by WAWAC funding partners and submitting reports to PD as needed in a timely manner.
Assisting children with assignments and homework, such as reading, writing, and math.
Following and learning materials and equipment, such as books, arts and crafts supplies, stationery, and other necessary items.
Interacting with the children to provide guidance, emotional support, and motivation to complete tasks.
Engaging and meeting with PD to discuss any reports/incidents.
Assisting PD manage the Bideww WhatsApp group chat.
Maintaining an organized/safe environment and helping students learn skills that help them conduct themselves appropriately.
To aid the emotional and social-interactive growth of children, enabling them to communicate their joys as well as their frustrations appropriately.
To encourage the social, physical, and intellectual development of children who attend our after-school program.

Every day we hear about the consequences of war and the suffering of the victims of armed conflict. Join in the effort to raise awareness about the rules of war. The International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Youth Action Campaign (YAC)- Regional Coordinator manages the YAC program at a regional level. The YAC program informs youth ages 13-24 about IHL and encourages youth to build a peer-to-peer awareness campaign on an IHL topic.

Volunteer Responsibilities include:

A passion for working with youth and an interest in IHL.

Participate in the monthly call during the implementation of the program.

Recruit teams of youth IHL advocates from your region to participate in the program.

Implement the IHL training for youth teams and help them to design their campaigns on an IHL topic.

Time Commitment:

At least one-year appointment.

Approximately 10 - 20 hours a month;

3-4 hours a week with youth teams during the implementation of the campaign (school year).

When disasters strike, it takes coordinated efforts of government agencies working alongside nonprofit organizations to quickly respond and help chart the path forward. Volunteers serving as Government Operations Service Associates serve as direct contact with government partners, often in an Emergency Operations Center or other coordination center, during a Disaster Relief Operation to ensure that Red Cross actions are aligned with the government.

Empower a group of college students from southern Africa who are visiting Seattle for a month as part of the Study of the US Institute on Civic Engagement program funded by the Department of State. Help young leaders create change in their communities at home (Angola, Botswana, Mozambique, South Africa, Zimbabwe). Help them develop their project ideas for the community action plans, share your experience and provide your feedback. Do a mock interview and help the participants with their interviewing skills. Partner in Employment's Refugee Youth Mentorship Program matches a community-based mentor with a newly arrived immigrant/refugee youth ages 15-24 in South King County, who will support their integration into a new country and help them thrive. In a trusting one-to-one relationship, these young people will have someone to seek advice in achieving education and career development goals, as well as fostering interpersonal skills and positive identity development. Mentors play a crucial role in youth confidence building through patience, encouragement, and dedication.

Examples of how mentors support their mentees:

Vision House is a Christian social service agency based near Seattle, Washington. Since 1990, Vision House has provided housing, support services and child care for homeless families with children.

Volunteers will spend time with Vision House resident children - playing games, reading books, doing crafts. All activities will be planned in advance so volunteers will show up each week and have fun. These activities may seem simple, but without individuals to care for and spend time with the children, then the parents cannot attend crucial life skills training classes.

Vision House is a Christian organization. We ask that, even if you do not share our beliefs, you respect them. While we do not have any mandatory spiritual activities for our residents, we do ask volunteers working in direct contact with residents to sign our statement of faith.

Volunteers must also fill out all necessary paperwork and attend training/orientation with the volunteer coordinator and child advocate. CPR/First aid training is a plus. The minimum age for this opportunity is 18 years and older.

Reading support volunteers focus on filling critical gaps that students have in foundational reading skills. The content used within this role is provided by the classroom teacher in collaboration with the English Language Development teacher.

The Red Cross Club Coordinator serves as a liaison between the Red Cross and Club student leadership. They help to create and maintain an environment where youth (high school & college aged students) feel empowered to lead and mobilize peers in community service projects addressing local and global issues. Club Coordinators support school year start up, help document activities and hours, and attend monthly Club meetings and events throughout the school year, virtually! Events may include hosting blood drives, personal care item drives for veterans, fundraising, and disaster preparedness campaigns. This can be served as an all-virtual opportunity! Role Overview 

Rainier Athletes' (RA) mission is to affirm our youth’s sense of purpose and belonging by intentionally connecting their core community of teachers, coaches, families, and mentors. Once selected, each student is paired with a dedicated one-on-one mentor in elementary and middle school and a Squad Leader in high school. Each student is also sponsored to participate in sports/extra-curricular activities year-round throughout their duration with Rainer Athletes. Students begin their RA journey in 4th grade and continue through high school graduation and beyond.  

To sustain our impact with the growing number of Rainier Athletes high school students and families, we are seeking enthusiastic, dedicated individuals to serve as Squad Leaders for small groups of high school students. Squads consist of four or five students of similar ages. Squad Leaders are tasked with building relationships with students in their squad(s) as well as their students’ families, teachers, and others in the community. 

Responsibilities include coordinating logistics and prepping for weekly hour-long Squad Meet-Ups. These Squad Meet-Ups may include topical discussions, study sessions, or other activities to strengthen relationships and build towards each student’s next step plan after high school. Collaboration is a key element to the program’s success; Squad Leaders will have hour-long weekly formal opportunities to connect with other Squad Leaders and RA’s High School Program Manager to share highlights, challenges, and best practices.

About English for Work and the Adviser Role

English for Work is a quarter-long English language program, designed for immigrants and refugees who are planning to get a job (or a better job) or enroll in college/job training in the next six months or so. In the class, students improve English listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills while learning about U.S. work culture, career goal setting, resume writing, and interview preparation.

Each adviser is assigned 2-3 students for the quarter. Advisers work one-on-one with their assigned students, supporting them in setting short-term and long-term career goals, resume writing, English practice, applying for jobs, and preparing for job interviews. Advisers primarily meet with students virtually, with occasional in-person opportunities at local libraries or other local public meeting spaces if student transportation allows.

This is a great role for working folks because the meeting schedules can be flexible. It’s also great for recently retired folks who are looking for ways to give back to the community and share their industry expertise!

We provide training and support to volunteers throughout the quarter.

Mentors help recently arrived refugees become acquainted with the surrounding community and face the challenges of resettling in a new country. How This Helps Our Community:  

We welcome everyone who wants to help and particularly encourage members of the Black community and people of color to volunteer with us. Almost all of YTP's students are people of color and roughly 85% come from immigrant families and many of our students are of East African descent. We believe African-American tutors will support them in navigating American culture, as tutoring is not only about academics but relationship building and socio-emotional support. We need your help to strengthen our diverse community and raise our collective efforts to improve our students' education across the city.

Teen Link is currently looking for adult volunteers (21+) to supervise the teen link young people phone workers. Working jointly with a Team of four teen link staff members, all of who are active in conducting trainings in school throughout King County. The goal is to engage teens in an open and honest discussion about the stresses and pressures that youth might face. In addition, Teen Link helps youth to identify coping mechanisms and warning signs, and instructs youth on how to intervene on behalf of a friend, if suicide ideation is expressed. This position works with a team of five Teen Link staff members, all of whom are active in conducting trainings in schools throughout King County. Professional training is provided. The WA Warm Line offers phone based peer support to people living with a mental illness using the principles of recovery to enhance the well-being of callers. Warm Line calls are answered by people who have lived experience with mental health challenges and want to share their experience to empower others. PEPS is a non-profit organization that connects parents to strengthen families and build community through parent peer-support groups. 

PEPS groups meet weekly and are facilitated by a PEPS-trained Leader. Each meeting allows parents the opportunity to share the week's concerns, successes, issues, and joys as well as time for a discussion on topics related to parenting and children (sleeping, feeding, adjusting to parenthood, etc.) The PEPS program model is based on the 5 Protective Factors from Strengthening Families, which help build resilient families, positive connections and support for parents, and reduce negative outcomes, such as abuse and neglect. 

98% of PEPS groups are facilitated by volunteers who are deeply rooted in our community and passionate about supporting new parents through the first critical months of life with a new baby. Over 4000 families rely on PEPS volunteers each year.

PEPS facilitators are compassionate, empathetic, resourceful, and real. They don't have all the answers, but they are passionate about helping parents, generating ideas, finding information, and building neighborhood communities together.

Some leaders give back as a way of honoring their own PEPS experience. Many are new to PEPS. All tell us they find great joy and satisfaction in helping new parents connect and share through their PEPS groups.

We appreciate warm, sensitive communicators, who are accepting of varied child-rearing practices and diverse lifestyles. Interest in early childhood development, experience in education or facilitation, previous PEPS group participation, or being a parent yourself are welcome pluses.

Groups meet for 2 hrs each week in the daytime [10-:30 - 12:30] or in the Evening [6:30 - 8:30], the same day each week for 12 weeks. Leaders commit to working with their group for 12 consecutive weeks, fewer if you choose to co-lead with a friend, spouse, partner, or colleague. PEPS provides specialized training and group leaders have access to experienced PEPS staff mentorship and a wealth of resources online.

Teach refugees how to ride the bus from their home to local locations, such as the grocery store and work. We will provide bus tickets for you and the clients to plan and take a trip from their home. You can show them how to use apps and Google Maps to plan their trip.

Our CLEVER program helps professionals re-enter their field they were employed in in their home country. We provide limited cash assistance for taking classes to get US credentials in their field. CLEVER volunteers can help refugees with vocabulary practice relevant to their career, as well as with exam prep. We currently have clients in IT, CNA, Dental Assistance and Professional Management classes who could use assistance. 

Lambert House LGBTQ+ Youth Center seeks adult volunteers age 23 & older (24 or older for previous program participants) for our daily drop-in center where youth play games or pool, watch movies, chat with volunteers, and make new friends. We provide services to queer youth, 22 years of age and younger, mostly through our dedicated volunteer group.

LGBTQ+ and ally adult volunteers provide LGBTQ+ youth with hope for their futures and positive, healthy role models to look up to. Our volunteers have a major positive impact on the experience of youth in our programs, and are a core part of the youth experience at Lambert House. With a small staff, we count on volunteers to provide support throughout the agency. Drop-In Center volunteers help Lambert House create and maintain an environment of inclusion and safety for all youth. They develop meaningful, trusting relationships with youth, provide referral to services inside and outside of the organization, and enforce Lambert House policies.

Responsibilities of the Drop-in Center Volunteer

Drop-in Center Volunteers are responsible for ensuring a safe and respectful atmosphere in our drop-in center for LGBTQ participants ages 11 to 22. Responsibilities include engaging youth via activities, conversations, or games; setting limits; and being a positive role model. Our volunteers make a commitment to staff the drop-in center for one three-hour shift per week (4-7, 5:30-8:30, or 7-9:30 M-F) for a minimum of one year. We have at least three volunteers per shift, with up to 12 adults in the house in other roles.

Over 35% of our youth identify as BIPOC and we're also seeking additional BIPOC volunteers to support that population more directly.

Serving as a Junior Coach is a fun and rewarding way to get involved with Girls on the Run! This volunteer position is for high school girls aged 16-18 years old who want to grow their leadership skills. Paired with a Mentor Coach, Junior Coaches receive support to develop their own skills while serving as role models to program participants.

Junior Coaches receive all the training, tools, and support they need and find that they get as much out of coaching as they give. Junior Coaches help lead two 90-minute practices per week throughout an 8-week season in the Fall or Spring. Teams include participants in either Grades 3-5 or Grades 6-8. Volunteers are an essential part of the Empowering Strides team. Volunteers are utilized in every lesson to maintain the utmost safety of each horse and rider. Volunteers support riders by helping them to groom and tack their horses, to mount and dismount, and to learn new things and complete tasks during a lesson.

Empowering Strides is open to working with teenagers that need to fulfill volunteer hours for school, senior projects, 4H or extra curricular activities! Our instructor has mentored high school students who were completing horse related senior projects and is happy to do so again.

CfY offers two programs, to better fit the needs and schedules of our participants.

Learning Community

The traditional CfY Learning Community offers 1:1 mentorship, small group mentorship, and whole community mentorship. Learning Community participants commit to 2 hours of volunteering a week for the academic year (October - June), with flexibility as needed and communicated with Staff. Meetings typically occur on Tuesday evenings.
Mentors in the Learning Community will:

be paired 1:1 with a student and meet once a month

join a “Family Group” of 3-4 other mentoring pairs and meet once a month

attend whole Community Workshops once a month

Duos

Our flexible Duos program focuses on the 1:1 relationship based upon your own schedules. Duos participants commit to meeting twice a month with their match from January - June.
We highly encourage new community members to consider enrolling in the traditional Learning Community program, to experience the power of community and explore different aspects and methods of mentorship.

Eligibility requirements:

Be at least 21 years of age

Reside in the greater Puget Sound region

Be willing to adhere to all Community for Youth program policies and procedures and follow the CfY Code of Conduct

Have never been accused, arrested, charged, or convicted of child abuse or molestation

Not use alcohol or controlled substances in an excessive or inappropriate manner

Not currently be in treatment for substance abuse. If a substance abuse problem has occurred in the past, the applicant must have completed a non-addictive period of at least five years

Join one of our informal, English Conversation Circles (ECC) at various Seattle Public Library (SPL) locations or online. These programs provide immigrants and refugees the opportunity to practice conversational English in an informal environment. Conversation Partners help lead fun, small-group discussions on various topics that volunteers help plan in advance and work with English for Speakers of Other Language (ESOL) adults of all skill levels.

ECC's are held in-person at the Beacon Hill, Delridge and Northgate branches, and online at the Central branches of the SPL. Good verbal communication and interpersonal skills in a diverse environment are desired. Develop cross-cultural friendships and learn new skills while making a difference in your community!

Are you looking to have some fun while making a difference in your community?

Plymouth Housing Group is a local non-profit organization that provides permanent supportive housing at 17 residential buildings that serve about 1,400 residents who were formerly homelessness. We are looking for a few volunteers who are knowledgeable, passionate, and interested in outdoor recreation, specifically fishing. Our building staff want to take a group of residents on a day trip to leisurely fish and enjoy time outdoors together. We are looking for a small group of volunteers to lead the trip by choosing the location, providing some gear (a few residents have limited gear), helping residents and staff learn how to fish, and assisting with transportation. We can provide some transportation as well. This would be very relaxed as some of our residents have mobility and health limitations. Ideally the fishing location would be 20-30 minutes from downtown Seattle and not involve any hiking. 

Volunteers must understand and align with Plymouth's mission and values of harm reduction and housing first. Many logistics will be figured out closer to the summertime. The Giving Room food bank is a grocery-store-style space where guests can shop for free groceries and personal items. On Monday mornings we welcome guests inside to check-in, select refrigerated and frozen items from a menu, then choose fresh produce, and browse the shelves for dry goods and hygiene items while cold items are packed. On Thursday and Friday mornings we pick up food from grocery partners and sort and store food for Mondays. Every week we need over 40 collective hours of volunteer time!

Education Is a Key to Success, Continuing Education Instructor In Need Of Assistants

DESC has assisted hundreds of individuals obtain employment as their primary path out of homelessness and toward greater stability through two distinct programs: Supported Employment Program and continuing education classes. This program has been a great success, so much so it's more than one person can handle alone.

Below is a description of the continuing education program offered to DESC clients and the commitment needed from a volunteer assistant.

1. The class is for a wide range of abilities. Most students enter at very basic levels. This is not an ESL class but some non-native speakers, with no better options available, have spent time in the class and have coped well.

2. Clients join for a wide range of reasons including using time productively, self-improvement, gaining employment skills, gaining a GED or preparing for college interest admission tests.

3. Students do not need to commit to an attendance level. 

4. Classes are free. 

5. Monday and Tuesday from 8:30am-10:30am at the DESC's Gateway in Honor of Tenaya Wright.

We are still requiring masks in all client areas so masking is required for this particular volunteer opportunity. Must be vaccinated for Covid-19 or have a compelling reason not to be.

CRB's Youth Education Program is seeking volunteer mentors/tutors to provide individualized tutoring to refugee youth attending Kent Meridian High School in an impactful after-school program! Mentors will be able to identify hindrances to their students’ overall prosperity, promote regular goal setting, and deliver pertinent, hands-on support in the classroom, at CRB offices.

Self-realization and improved self-esteem for the young person are important goals of the relationship. We're hoping to find mentors who are compassionate, caring, and have cultural humility. Now recruiting for the 2023-2024 school year! We're looking for strong problem solvers who can bring their experience in education or social services to provide respectful, nonjudgmental, positive, creative, flexible, and consistent tutoring support for youth.

At Friends of the Children Seattle, we are focused on accelerating generational change for youth facing the toughest of challenges by connecting them with our professional mentors who guide them to develop their greatest potential and achieve their goals. We stick with our youth from kindergarten through graduation, no matter what. We have a strong commitment to our youth’s future and encourage them to think about college and careers early on.

Thanks to the help of volunteer tutors, we are able to provide 1:1 tutoring to nearly 30 youth each quarter. Most tutors work with youth in elementary school and focus on meeting grade-level math and reading requirements. Other tutors have focused on SAT and GED prep with our teens and seniors, helping prepare them for upcoming tests or improve their scores.

Our mission is to engage youth in writing poetry to inspire healing and growth. Pongo Poetry Mentors volunteer their time to work with youth in writing heartfelt, personal poetry. As a Pongo mentor, you will help youth write about their difficult experiences; and you will experience writing that is sometimes sad, but also a source of excitement, pride, and healing for the youth. Our volunteers find the work touching, enlightening, and enlivening — and a benefit to their careers in counseling, teaching, and community service. Empowered by their time with us, Pongo volunteers have gone on to start their own poetry projects.

As a Pongo Poetry Mentor, you will be trained in Pongo’s techniques for teaching poetry writing to distressed teens in service of inspiring their healing and growth. You will be well supported and work with a close-knit, collaborative team of 3 to 4 others under the direction of an experienced Pongo Project Leader.

Because a large percentage of youth we write with are BIPOC, Pongo seeks to have a diverse team of Poetry Mentors. We know from experience that BIPOC youth are excited to see Poetry Mentors who look like them. For a powerful example, listen to Amani Carithers share her experience of volunteering with Pongo at our King County Juvenile Detention project site.

While Pongo poetry sites meet at different times, each weekly session is around 3 hours and consists of the following:

Mentors check-in, create writing activities, review/hone Pongo techniques, and share personal poems and relevant published pieces.

Sessions begin with a warm up writing exercise in the form of a group poem. Then mentors are paired with youth, one-on-one, to create personal poetry. Teens may change from week to week, depending on the poetry site.

Mentors check-in, type up and send copies of youth poems, and receive poetry writing prompts or activity creation assignments as “homework.”

Pongo operates its projects in the Seattle/Tacoma area. Typically, mentor teams are formed in August, orientations occur in September, and projects run from September to June. However, volunteers are encouraged to apply year around in case positions open up. To apply:

South Park Senior Citizens (SPSC) is located in the South Park Neighborhood Center, in the heart of South Park, where we provide services from a historic brick fire station. SPSC works to support seniors as they explore healthy and active lives. Our participants are primarily immigrants and refugees from Vietnam, Cambodia, Mexico, and South American countries, many are navigating language and cultural barriers, and most are living at, or below, the poverty line. SPSC is a vibrant place for community to gather, friends to be made, and culture to be celebrated. Our Seniors gather to enjoy cultural meals made from scratch, singing, dancing, exercise classes, education and learning opportunities, field trips, book clubs, and cultural celebrations. Many of our Seniors are living vulnerable lives - SPSC is also a place where they can receive social service supports and resources, available in multiple languages. SPSC is deeply immersed in the South Park community; we strive to bridge gaps in services, meet overlooked community needs, and grow aspects of equity and inclusion.

Board Member Position Summary 

Board members support the work of tSB and provide mission-based leadership and strategic guidance.  While day-to-day operations are led by tSB’s staff, the appropriate involvement of the Board is both critical and expected. Board Member responsibilities include:

Do you have a special skill that you think would make a great group activity for our DESC residents/clients? Would you like to be involved with assisting someone else in their special skill or just spend time with some of the people that DESC serves?

DESC has 15 housing locations across the Seattle area as well as a few additional programs that lead a variety of group activities for DESC residents/clients. Activities range from bingo to art groups, etc. We are seeking volunteers to lead or assist staff with these activities. Type of group activity would depend on abilities/talents of the volunteer and the needs of the specific housing location. Frequency in most cases would be weekly and schedule is flexible depending on volunteer schedule and location needs/abilities.

If you have a special skill that you think would make a great group, let us know as we are always open to options and our housing programs main focus is just to create a group environment where our residents can connect as a community.

All volunteers must be fully vaccinated against COVID and adhere to any required safety guidelines. Submission of proof of vaccination is required. Must be over 18 and complete a background check. We ask for a commitment of at least 6 months.

Event assistants help out either Volunteer Coordinator or Forest Stewards with day-of event tasks, from event set-up and break down, volunteer registration forms, taking photos  during event, and leading volunteers in restoration tasks. Restoration tasks will include removing weeds, planting, spreading mulch and gravel, watering, and some trail work among others.

Note: Volunteer assistants are not expected to spend event time actively doing restoration, but rather guiding attendees by offering help and giving advice on best practices.

Over 1,500 youth and young adults between the ages of 12-25 are homeless or unstably housed in King County. Shelter beds and community resources are limited, leaving the vast majority of young people without access to food or safe housing.

Through the YMCA Host Homes Program, you have the opportunity to be a champion for some of these young adults facing who are facing homelessness.

Host Homes is a 6-month transitional housing program that matches young people ages 18 - 24 who are at risk of experiencing homelessness with caring hosts in the community who can provide the space and opportunity young adults need to build independent living skills, gain stability, and focus on goal attainment. While enrolled, young adults receive 1-on-1 case management support as well as access to wrap-around services through the YMCA Social Impact Center.

Hosts are volunteers in King County who want to make a difference in the life of a young person. They offer a room in their home that provides safe, short-term housing to a young adult who needs support to focus on housing, employment, education, and/or other stabilizing goals. Hosts receive guidance and support from our Team every step of the way.

It is important to us that young people have the opportunity to be matched with host families that fit within their cultural orientation and individual lifestyle. We are searching for host families that come from various backgrounds and experiences. Host families may be single, married or partnered and represent a wide range of ethnicities, religions, sexual identities, cultures, etc.

One common trait that all host families have is their passion, commitment and dedication in making a positive difference in the lives of young people.

WHO CAN BE A HOST HOME PROVIDER?

Families who want to give back to their community and serve as a support for a young adult experiencing homelessness may be interested in joining the YMCA Host Homes program. Although Host Homes is a short 6-month commitment, many Hosts and participants find that their connection continues long after their exit. 

Host Homes is also a great opportunity for prospective foster parents who would like to try living with a young person for 6 months before committing to something more long-term.

Atlas Assistance Dogs(R) (Atlas) is looking for a few key people to expand our board.

We are in our 7th year and to date have been an active volunteering as well as leadership board and are in transition. We have developed phenomenal programs and had great successes as a team, and recognize it is time to bring on some board members to help us think through the next steps and build an even stronger organization that will sustain long term. This is an exciting time to get involved and have a huge impact.

This is a great opportunity for you to expand your leadership skills, contribute to a culture of philanthropy, and work with a great team on core strategic initiatives that will have real impact that contribute directly to our mission. Expected time commitment is an average of 2-5 hours a week encompassing monthly board meetings, committee meetings, outreach efforts and any individual or committee related work that benefits the organization and our future.

Atlas Assistance Dogs is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit working to ensure access to assistance dogs for anyone who would benefit from them by bringing qualify training and certification to the individual wishing to be part of training their own dog.

Lesson leaders help by leading the horse while the rider steers and learns to ride. They are there for the added safety of the rider.

During lessons side walkers devote their attention to the rider of the horse. They make sure the rider is safe, stable, maintaining proper posture, and having fun! They walk alongside the horse and rider, keeping a close eye and providing assistance when needed.

Creative Mentors help Teaching Artists set up/break down classes, provide a supportive and welcoming presence, connect with and assist participants, take photographs, take attendance, and generally model good behavior.

Creative Mentors get a front-row to engaging in the class content and Path with Art is often able to provide materials for those that want to learn alongside participants. Creative Mentors commit to volunteering for the entire duration of a 4 to 8-week class. Classes generally meet on weekday afternoons or early evenings for 2 hours each week

Description

We are looking for group mentor facilitators and group mentors for our virtual Monday evening sessions.

Students in our Monday evening sessions are in 9th and 10th grade, attend school in King County, and are graduates of our middle school Mentoring Circles. Training is provided along with a curriculum from “A New Way Forward Manual”. Weekly planning sessions are held to help facilitators and mentors prepare for the upcoming session.

The 4C recruits' youth and programming is delivered by trained mentors and professionals. We are calling interested volunteers, men and women, students from community colleges and local universities to apply. One person can make a huge difference.

MENTORING YOUTH IN KING COUNTY – A POWERFUL FORCE FOR CHANGE

The 4C Coalition is a community-based nonprofit founded in 1999 that helps Black and other youth of color succeed in school and in life. We offer one-on-one mentoring, group mentoring and tutoring to youth who are ages 12- to 17-year-olds and reside in King County. 4C Mentor Program is recruiting committed and caring BIPOC mentors who will be matched with a youth . The 4C Mentor Program target population is specifically designed to reach the mentoring needs of at risk youth. We are recruiting volunteers who feel passionately about changing young lives for the better. 4C Coalition mentors receive an initial two-hour virtual orientation and training followed by ongoing planning sessions and support with 4C staff. Trained mentors make a one-year commitment to meet with their mentee once a week. Because of Covid, mentors meet in person twice a month and virtually twice a month. Volunteer Mentors age requirement 21-over .  

We are also accepting individuals who may be interested in assisting in  the office, at community festivals and events – or would like to raise community awareness about our services, we would love to talk to you as well.
