Volunteer: Black Farmers Collective: Volunteer OpportunityJoin us on Saturday, April 18th at Small Axe Farm in Redmond for a hands-on spring clean-up supporting a community-rooted incubator farm. Located in the Sammamish Valley, this four-acre teaching farm provides emerging BIPOC land stewards with access to land, resources, and training to grow sustainable farming practices. Volunteers will help prepare the space for the growing season through essential tasks like clearing garden beds, organizing shared areas, and general outdoor upkeep. This work helps ensure the farm can continue to serve as a space for learning, growth, and community impact. No prior experience needed, just come ready to collaborate and get your hands a little dirty. Sign up to our Emerging Leaders 365 newsletter for more ways to start your year of impact! Please note that these volunteer projects help serve the needs of our community organizations, and the volunteer capacity is set to serve that. Volunteers will help set up the farm’s aquaponic system, laying the groundwork for a sustainable, soil-free growing process that integrates fish and plant production. Volunteer: Earth Month Celebration on the Green RiverCelebrate Earth Month with REI and Steward Chris in a morning of riverside restoration at one of our community’s most treasured trails. Volunteers will remove invasive plants and help establish native trees and shrubs, building a healthier forest and river corridor for salmon and people alike. Did you know? The Duwamish River—the lower stretch of the Green—was once lined with tidal marshes and forests, 97% of which have been lost to development. Your work helps restore vital habitat along this living river. All ages are encouraged to join! This is a fantastic opportunity for families and business groups to give back together. Tools and training provided—come ready to get your hands dirty and make a difference.
