Volunteer: Disasters harm families. Can you help?

Every day, the American Red Cross sees the heartbreak of people trying to cope with more intense storms, heavier rainfall, higher temperatures, stronger hurricanes and more devastating wildfires.

As more people rely on the Red Cross for help, the need for compassionate volunteers has never been greater.

Volunteers help comfort and support people who are forced from their homes due to fires, storms and other emergencies, so they don’t have to face tough times alone. Join us and turn your compassion into action by becoming a volunteer today. We are actively recruiting for these critical volunteer roles:

Shelter Support Team: During large disasters, you can support the day-to-day activities within a shelter which may include working in reception, registration, feeding, dormitory, information or other areas within a shelter. Free online training will be provided. If the need arises, volunteers are asked to commit to multiple local shifts of 4-12 hours each. For those able to travel outside of their local area, a commitment of at least 14 consecutive days, working 8- or 12-hour shifts is required.

Disaster Health Services Team: During large disasters, you can use your professional skills as a licensed healthcare provider to deliver hands on care and education to shelter residents. Free online training will be provided and can count towards nursing continuing education units. If the need arises, volunteers are asked to commit to multiple local shifts of 4-12 hours each. For those able to travel outside of their local area, a commitment of at least 10-14 consecutive days, working 8- or 12-hour shifts is required. Qualified licenses include RN, LPN, LVN, EMT, Paramedic, MD, DO, PA, NP, APRN. Only RNs have full scope of practice.

Disaster Action Team: While big hurricanes and wildfires get the most news coverage, smaller disasters are no less devastating to the families affected. Most of the 60,000 emergencies that the Red Cross responds to each year are smaller disasters like home fires. As a Disaster Action Team volunteer, you can help comfort and support people in your community by meeting any immediate needs such as food, shelter, clothing or supplies and connecting them to long term recovery services. We supply all the training you need.

Volunteer: Marra Farm Giving Garden Work Party (Group)

Do you want to end hunger in your community?

Imagine a city where people have equal access to healthy and culturally appropriate food. The Community Food Education (CFE) at Solid Ground fosters community connections through gardening education, sustainable food production, environmental stewardship, and raising awareness about good nutrition and food justice. We also fight hunger by providing low-income individuals with seeds and materials, and supporting backyard gardeners in donating fruits and vegetables grown in King County.

If you share our vision, join us at Marra Farm Giving Garden in Seattle's South Park neighborhood! A Giving Garden Work Party offers an idyllic outdoor opportunity to bond with your coworkers. Dig into soil, plant, weed, and harvest much-needed fresh food for our neighbors as you connect with your team. With the rising cost of food, our local communities rely on fresh produce from Marra Farm more than ever. Help us grow healthy and culturally appropriate food for our neighbors in need!

Time Commitment

Help us kick off the growing season in March and April, or support us during the highest need months of July through September. We’ve already set aside most Tuesdays from 9am to 2pm during the growing season for large-group work parties, preferably with 20 or more volunteers. We encourage you to sign up for a full shift, but we ask for a minimum of three hours. Teams can consist of coworkers, community or church group members, or neighbors. All are welcome!

Volunteer: Volunteer- Support El Centro De La Raza

We are celebrating a continued partnership with El Centro de la Raza, a community organization rooted in the Latino community, as we work side-by-side to build a more equitable future for everyone.

Come craft flowers and organize auction items on Saturday, October 11th, for their annual Building the Beloved Community Gala. Tasks will include: Decorating the dining room, helping set up the silent auction, set up the registration tables, and helping with the photo booth.

Are you interested in using your time, talent, and energy to support the vision of a healthy and happy home for every cat and dog in Washington?

If yes, then please consider joining our Board!

Pawsitive Alliance, a volunteer driven tax-exempt nonprofit organization, is having an open call for Board Members. Founded in 2005, the mission of Pawsitive Alliance is to help end the euthanasia of adoptable dogs and cats in Washington by increasing adoptions, supporting spay and neuter programs, and improving pet retention.

Pawsitive Alliance advances are mission through our three programs:

Adoption program: #WhyNotMePets campaign, highlighting long-term homeless pets, and supporting adoption events to help homeless finds homes

Spay/Neuter: providing vouchers and financial and logistical support to increase surgeries and access to end pet overpopulation and suffering

Pet retention: collecting and distributing pet food and supplies and offering pet ID tags and microchips to keep pets thriving with their caretakers

Our programs and activities prioritize increasing services for pets, people, and places across Washington state with few resources.

Pawsitive Alliance’s biggest strengths are marketing, organizing, fundraising, and collaborating.  We work with more than 50 human and animal-welfare partners each year. Volunteer: Do You Speak Spanish and Have a Heart Full of Patience and Joy?

Do You Speak Spanish and Have a Heart Full of Patience and Joy?

Location: Near 149th Ave SE, Kent, WA 98042

Schedule: Flexible, based on your availability

We’re looking for a Spanish-speaking volunteer to spend time with a kind and gentle elder in our community. He’s beginning to experience some memory loss and feels anxious in unfamiliar places. He lives with his loving family—his wife and daughter—and speaks only Spanish.

Who Are We Looking For?

Someone with humility, patience, and a love for culture. Someone who can walk with him, share simple moments, and maybe talk about gardening and the days when he worked as a landscaper. He loves walking and light exercise, and while his world has grown quieter, your presence can bring back connection, joy, and dignity.

What You Can Offer:

Friendly conversation in Spanish

Gentle walks around the neighborhood

A listening ear and a warm presence

A bridge to his past and a spark of joy in his present

What You’ll Gain:

The deep satisfaction of making a meaningful difference

The chance to learn from a life full of stories and experience

A space to grow empathy, cultural connection, and community

Help bring light back into his days.

Your time and kindness can help restore the joy of companionship and the beauty of shared culture.

Volunteer: Deliver Medically Tailored Meals to Neighbors with Lifelong Health for All

Our Mission: We remove barriers to health with relentless compassion so that no one faces illness and injustice alone.

Lifelong was founded by volunteers in the '80s in response to the HIV/AIDS crisis, delivering meals to folks with HIV. Lifelong has expanded since then and merged with the Northwest AIDS Alliance and Evergreen Health, and we now serve individuals with a wide range of chronic medical conditions including cancer, diabetes, and kidney disease, as well as seniors and folks with disabilities. We deliver medically tailored meals and culturally relevant grocery bags to people's homes primarily in King and Snohomish counties.

In 2024 we delivered 180,000 meals and 35,000 grocery bags to folks in need.

Our Vision: Health For All

Making an impact in your community is easier than you think! Help deliver nutritious, culturally appropriate groceries and medically tailored meals from the Chicken Soup Brigade to our clients who are home-bound and/or living with serious illnesses.

Volunteer driver routes take 60-120 minutes to complete on average (including picking up the food from our home base in Georgetown), you will deliver to around 6-10 clients per route, and we can try to find a route near where you live to save driving time and help you build connections within your community.

We are currently looking for support with the following routes:

Mondays - Leschi or South Pioneer SquareFridays - Kent, South Renton, or Federal Way

Pickup Time/Location: Pick up times are between 9:00am - 3:00pm Monday - Friday at our warehouse in Georgetown. We also have satellite pickup locations in Bellevue on Thursdays and Aubrun on Fridays to reduce your driving time if you live close to those areas. Please ask us about those in your application if you're interested!

Commitment: 1 shift per week for at least 3 months (OK to take time off for vacations and other commitments. Just make sure those dates are communicated to us!)

Qualifications: Must be 18 years old or older, have a driver’s license, and a reliable vehicle with proof of insurance. Training for the role is provided.

If you are interested in being a delivery driver volunteer, please submit an application here:

Make a Meaningful Connection—Bring Joy, Comfort, and Companionship

We’re seeking compassionate volunteers to spend time with a friendly elder in Des Moines who is navigating a bit of confusion and agitation around his current living situation. He dreams of returning to his independent apartment and would benefit greatly from kind, steady volunteer companionship.

He has a rich life story—once an avid athlete who played football, baseball, and volleyball, and a traveler who’s explored states like Florida, Alabama, and Washington. He enjoys fishing, playing pool, listening to music, and dancing.

Your presence can make a real difference. Whether it’s sharing stories, enjoying music together, or simply being a calming presence, your time can bring comfort and joy.
