Pongo Poetry Project

Who We Are

Pongo Poetry Project’s mission is to engage youth in writing poetry to inspire healing and growth.

What We Do

At the heart of our program is the Pongo Method, a uniquely successful trauma-informed technique for teaching poetry, created with the support and advice of prominent community psychiatrists from the University of Washington School of Medicine. To accomplish our goals, we run therapeutic poetry writing workshops inside detention centers, homeless shelters, psychiatric hospitals, and other sites frequented by youth with histories of trauma. Additionally, we conduct presentations and trainings on our methodology to organizations and agencies. Our vision is to proliferate Pongo-inspired writing projects offering expressive and healing opportunities to many thousands of trauma sufferers locally and around the world.
