Who We Are
Good Shepherd Youth Outreach (GSYO), founded in 2008, is a non-profit organization that employs prevention/intervention strategies to develop services and programs which support youth and families in Western Washington communities. The purpose of GSYO is to bring life-changing opportunities to promising disadvantaged youth by providing an inspirational message of hope, building strong partnerships, supporting families, and offering effective mentoring and educational support programs. Since its inception in 2008, GSYO has worked towards developing and sustaining community partnerships with several various organizations to deliver culturally competent resources which engage families in a method that honors their voice and works collaboratively towards success.
What We Do
GSYO coordinates feeding our communities (FOC) with a drive-thru food distribution within the BIPOC community to supplement closed agencies, schools and meal sites. GSYO weekly food distribution site support families in Federal Way and Unincorporated King County (Auburn) during this public health crises COVID-19 outbreak. Our kids, and working families who are struggling to make ends meet on a daily basis are impacted even more by having to choose what’s least costly: spending money on childcare or not going to work so they can stay home to care for their child. Schools are closed which reduces immediate access to meals. Buses are not picking up our kids which means they must find their way to school to eat a meal. By providing this innovative food distribution support for BIPOC families during this time of need brings a message of HOPE and provides real community partnership and engagement.
