Who We Are
Our Mission: Grievers Library offers the companionship of books to those among us living with grief. Our Vision: To normalize "grief" in our culture. Grievers Library is run under the aegis of a national bereavement organization based in Sacramento, CA. The project is still in development and is planned to launch in May 2022.
What We Do
The Grievers Library is a volunteer-driven and donation-supported community initiative providing free grief books and internet-based resources to children, teenagers, and adults living with grief. Scheduled to launch in May 2022, our Book Boxes will be stocked and monitored with a curated selection of grief books in five different Seattle neighborhoods. The Grievers Library is currently in start-up mode and we are recruiting Volunteers to work in our Ballard office. All Volunteer tasks are book-related -- removing labels from used books and adding donor and Grievers Library labels to all books. We schedule Volunteers in 3-hour shifts and encourage them to come with a buddy. Our volunteers are often grievers who are motivated to support other bereaved individuals; many find this work meaningful and therapeutic.
