Who We Are

Muslimahs Against Abuse Center (MAAC) began as an informal network of women supporting one another in times of crisis. Founded officially in 2020, MAAC has grown into a trusted, culturally specific service provider for refugee and immigrant survivors of domestic and gender-based violence in South King County. MAAC’s multilingual staff and volunteers serve primarily Somali, Oromo, Amharic, Arabic, and Swahili-speaking families, offering services that are culturally responsive, linguistically accessible, and grounded in shared values of dignity, healing, and safety.

What We Do

MAAC was founded in 2020 to meet a critical need among East African and other refugee and immigrant families in King County for culturally responsive, dual-language domestic violence crisis intervention and healing services. Our work is grounded in the belief that safety, dignity, and belonging are foundational to thriving, and that helping parents thrive is essential to supporting children’s long term resiliency and happiness. MAAC's current services include: - crisis intervention, emergency shelter, and basic needs - individual and family case management services - therapeutic and social support groups - youth education and social support groups - community education and engagement
